Subject: Cause and therapy of multiple sclerosis
Reference: alt.support.ms postings on this subject

Please be advised of the MS-related work of Dr. Edward C.
Rosenow, who served as head of experimental bacteriology for the
Mayo Foundation for nearly three decades (1915-1944). Dr.
Rosenow's studies included MS as early as 1916, with particular
attention given to it in his later years.
Dr. Rosenow presented evidence of having established an
etiologic relationship with an organism consistently isolated
from the nasopharynx, tonsils and infected teeth, concluding that
MS was due to a non-hemolytic neurotropic streptococcic infection
or intoxication in constitutionally pre-disposed persons. Dr.
Rosenow's work implicated diseased or non-vital (root-canal-
filled) teeth as the primary source/reservoir for causative
organisms in a wide range of diseases, including MS.
In his last 2 published articles in 1957 and 1958, both of
which referred to MS and the last also to ALS, Dr. Rosenow
emphasized the use of subcutaneous injections of both autogenous
streptococcic vaccine and thermal antibody. These were to be
continued over an indefinite period presumably due to the
continued presence of foci implicated in his earlier studies.

A full bibliography and index (by subject and disease) to Dr.
Rosenow's nearly 300 published articles, spanning the period
1902-1958, may be found at:
http://www.Geocities.com/Athens/3361/ro-index.htm

For an overview of Dr. Rosenow's work, please see:
http://www.Geocities.com/Athens/3361/rosenow.htm

Re: preparation and administration of therapeutic antibody, with
specific reference to MS, please see:
http://www.Geocities.com/Athens/3361/ro-recip.htm

A more detailed article on the subject of correlations between
oral foci, optic neuritis and multiple sclerosis is planned (to
be posted at http://www.Geocities.com/Athens/3361); its
availability will be posted on this newsgroup.

I had major problems with strep throat/tonsillitis growing up with the removal
of chronically diseased tonsils when I was 17. Notices MS symptoms when I was
a teenager but diagnosed at age 35. Don't know if there was any connection.

-- For what it's worth I had the first indication of anything wrong within hours
of a dental treatment - on a canine tooth's neighbour. This became - and was
diagnosed as - ON approx thwo to three weeks later. Coincidence? The medics
thought so at the time despite (according to them) an intensive investigation
into the dental treatment. And several medics have repeated since that the
dental treatment "could not possible have been related" - But I still wonder -
16 years later and now experiencing mild fatigue and various depradations to th
enrervous system - although nothin like as bad as the things I read in this
group, thank goodness.
If my experiences would help to track this thing down put us in touch

I believe that there is something, some clue, some connection, some
cause, some cure. Call me Polly Anna, but I believe there is an answer
hiding behind every mystery. But to find the answers we need to ask the
questions. There are millions of questions, and I get a little weary of
people mocking those who dare to ask one of them. Didn't somebody say
there's no such thing as a stupid question? Am I being overly sensitive?

I don't know what caused my MS. I have many root canals. My mother
died of Lupus. I have a long history of rheumatic fever. I don't know
what is the cause I'm just trying to live with MS and to accept it.
Anyone else know where I am? Love, Liz in Michigan

It was meant to be pragmatism and humour/satire. Yes, there are stupid
questions (am I ill!) but I'm sure someone has said there aren't, IMHO
the piece had a 'pan' dimension like the mercury filling/injection
theories, even the piece quoted is muddled and highly speculative. What
was the question, it looked like interpreting someone elses old work to
me?

There are some theories that are so general it is difficult to work out
how they could be MS specific...this is one of them (wood burns
therefore everything that burns is wood?).

If you post you the possibility of criticism is inherrent (as you
criticised me, QED) and so..maybe a bit sensitive ;)

Do you mean where you are in terms of attitude or physically? I know that
whatever caused my MS is not too relevant to me at this point, because there is
no answer to that at the moment, so we can't prevent anyone from getting it. If
you already have it, then it is a moot point for one personally. I agree that
all we can do is live with it as best we can and as healthfully as we can. I
try to do everything possible to prevent getting other preventable diseases.
This one is enough.

By the way, I am in Michigan also. Nice state, eh? It's been a nice
spring/summer so far.

No Debbie,
There are no dumb questions, just sometimes some dumb answers, perhaps meant in
jest. But the causes of MS and the possible cures are the subjects of serious
research. Bottom line, we don't know yet.

I love your attitude. It is precisely hope which distinguishes us from
the animal world. Child-like? Sure But It does turn out all right in the
end. That's why God made the world. There is the mystery of meaning to
our suffering. It is a journey into the wonders of depth...+...

Thanks for your nice reflection

Hi Everyone,
If you would please, see if anyone can find something out about
something called schizencephaly, it has attacked a woman's two grand
children and one of the children is having a horrible time with it.
She is 3 and while she used to be developing albet slowly, she started
to have horrible seizures and when the doctors gave her medication to
control them, she started to go down hill pretty fast as far as her
development goes. Her Grandmother is a victim of MS, and the children
along with their parents are staying with her.
Any information that would help, would be appreciated. I have looked
the condition up in my medical encyclopedia, to no avail.
Thanks,

Hi

Afraid this won't be much help but it's what I could find. I
think you may need to clarify the term "schizencephaly"

The definitions come from Tabors Medical Dictionary and it's not
the latest edition.

Schizo - combining form indicating division

Schisto - combining form meaning split or cleft

encephalopathy - any dysfunction of the brain

encephalic - pertaining to the brain or it's cavity

Suggest you contact NOORD (National Organization of Orphan
Diseases). Know they have an 800 # and think they are out of NY,
NY.
