Way cool graphics, and smooth too. Of course games like this
tend to get boring quickly. Fortunately thgere is 2 player
play (no probably no network play). The commands are restricted
to 4 directions and a 'fire' button. Unlike most fighter-games
however you dont always attack when you press fire. Pressing
fire has the effect of building up the power of your attack (kind
of like ki), performing an abrupt action (movemnt) or letting go makes
the attack. There are so many basic attacks (things like:
Up, Up then back, up then forward, forward, backward, down, down
then back, down then forward - though down itself normally
wont do anything). When doing such remedial attacks as a drop
kick it gets tricky since you dont get that much power out of it
if you jump, then decide to do the attack. Doesnt take too long
to get used to it

And like all 'fighter-games' there are special moves. I only
managed to pull one off with the Cyborg - his headbutt attack
which did a heft amount of damage. Doing it involved something
with the button, backward and forwards - but I have not
been able to reproduce this one again, or any other. Anyone?

(BTW you cant jump over your opponent so backward if you start
on the left is always left)

Once again, great graphics! I'm curious to see how One Must
Fall matches up graphics wise, actually I doubt OMF will match
up graphics wise. I should say I'm curious to see if OMF
has smooth graphics as well, though I'm fairly sure it will
be better in most other miscellaneous respects like improving
your robot however you want, etc

I haven't downloaded an ROR demo that works yet (getting the new
user-friendly version today -- all 5MB of it!), but after seeing the
little slide show for ROR on uwp, I can tell you that OMF:2097's graphics
don't match up.

However, I have played the beta for OMF, and on a 486DX-50 with 8 MB, the
graphics were VERY smooth, and the gameplay was a winner. I suspect
anyone with a 486 will get the same results, a la Jazz Jackrabbit.
IMHO, the tournament mode will be the big selling point of OMF, simply
because no other fighters really do that -- they're all "survive and
advance," Jimmy V-style.

BTW, I'm putting together an FAQ for One Must Fall, which will be
released on the net soon, hopefully before the game comes out (whenever
that may be).

But otherwise it'll probably be better

good - smooth graphics is waht counts. I remember SF2 for the PC

Hmm, its not like the SF2 Tournament arcade is it? That is
still survive and advance
The best fighting game I have right now for the PC, MK - still
lacks. One player all you do is advance through the computers (very
unoriginal). Two players you can pick any two fighters, so any sort
of tournament is really up to you to organize.

Hmm... OMF was supposed to be out almost a half-year ago
So apparently the modem/network play is *not* there? And will
be added in the future?

Cyborg special moves:
Head butt
down-up-attack
Lunge-slide:
away-towards attack

Military special moves
Spin-jump
down-up-attack
CLAW:
away-towards attack

The alpha we just got in today also has a "block" button

>BTW you cant jump over your opponent so backward if you start

The developers are still deciding if they want them to be able to
pass each other, and thus switch sides.

Be aware that this is just the demo ... there is a LOT more in the
full game (like "fatalities" which affect the endgame and
transitional segments) that couldn't be included in the demo due
to space considerations.

I've been posting RotR graphics to alt.binaries.pictures.misc,
if you want to grab some. I've only done a few so far, with
more to come as we get closer to the release date (Nov 17).

Hmm, exactly when do you push/letgo of attack. I've tried all sorts
of combinations of away-towards attack without success

Does anyone know what ever became of the much hyped CDROM game "Rise of
the Robots"? As far as I know it isn't released yet, but I do remember
seeing a trailer for it about 8 or 9 months ago now..

Any info appreciated.

The global release date for RotR is November 17. There is a SVGA demo
on my ftp site (ftp.netcom.com, cd to pub/skreyn).

Tap the keys, don't press them. If you are still holding down "away"
when you press "towards," it won't work. Just tap-tap-tap.
