I'm getting really sick and tired of Andruw's lack of professional approach
to hitting. He tries to hit a HR every time up. He seems to have a slow
swing. Maybe his bat is too heavy. Barry Bonds uses a smaller bat from what
I've seen. Maybe Andruw is too macho and needs to show that he uses the big
bat? Whatever the reason, it's frustrating to see virtually no improvement
from Andruw in hitting after all these years we were promised he would be
the next slugging superstar of MLB.

It's not the bat size that's getting him, it's the swinging at the off-speed
pitches 50 feet out of the zone.

Anybody have any thoughts on what the Braves should do re: Andruw's swing at
this point? I mentioned in a post a few weeks ago that his swing looked to
be going into his annual midseason funk. A friend had actually first
mentioned this during the Texas series, and looking back at hsi game log,
Texas is where he peaked (at 301/401/576 on June 9). He's actually somewhat
maintained his patience - 9 BB in the 20 games of his swoon - but has had
little clue about hittable pitches.

Some of this might have to do with strength of schedule - the Braves have
faced Minnesota, Boston twice, and Montreal and the Mets (who at least have
decent pitching).

This is an annual even with Andruw. What usually happens next is he starts
to hack his way out of it. Which would really tick me off after his
accomplishments with patience the first 2.5 months of the season.

Stay tuned.

I think it can be traced back to this NG going "Woohoo! 300/400/575!"

Hey, look, that guy has a no-hitter going...

I read somewhere that Andruw's slump coincided with him running into a
wall or getting hit by a pitch or something like that. It's entirely
possible that he just needs a bit of rest to heal, or that he's now
trying to compensate a little bit in his swing somehow for the pain
wherever he got hurt.

2.5 months worth of plate discipline is a record for Andruw AFAICT.

I'm waiting with baited breath.

No, really, I am.

Heh.

And his 300/400/575 was put up to spite me when I thought everyone was
putting their cart before the horse calling this year's OF one of the
greatest ever.

At which point I recall pointing out that AJ had done this before, and that
the proof was yet to come...

He mentioned recently that he was feeling tired, which might be what happens
every year. That would suggest a couple of things: 1) A few more days off
here and there; and 2) A better off-season workout regimen than lifting
the fork to his mouth.

If I see him around the Montreal night-life this weekend, I'll offer to buy
some lap-dances for him. Maybe that will help take the edge off. :)

Hey, did ya see his first plate appearance in the ASG? That's the first 2-0
count he's had in quite some time. I wonder if Brenly threatened him if he
swung his bat before 3 pitches.

OK, I lied.. it was actually 1-1 when Andruw finally swung. I had a Ted
Williams moment thinking of him not swinging.
