Atention! Dirt bikers ARE nature. Don't be a nut. (longish, but fun!)

Here is a thought:

I am a brain scientist and a trail rider. I taught experimental
methodology at Emory university in the Behavioral Neuroscience
program. I spent four years in the joint Phd program of the
neuroscience and psychology departments. Here is some interesting
info:

I have come to the conclusion that trailriding is much more than just
fun. The trance like state of concentration, and the deep down
ancestral feelings of satisfaction leading to the sheer joy I feel
must come from somewhere deep. I propose that trail riding wakes up
components of the brain normally found dormant in us most of the time.

The brain uses over 1/3 of the bodies energy. A great way to
conserve energy is to shut down unnecessary functions. The brain does
this unless challenged with particular environments or situations.
Trail riding seems to turn on those areas of the brain developed in
our ancestors for swinging through trees. The spatial ability and
depth perception. The grip strength and balance. Are we making that
double jump or are we leaping to the next tree accurately enough to
grab that next branch? See what I mean! Tell the ECO-nuts that they
are not in any way close to being in tune with trees like trail riders
are--no matter how much they hug them!!

Dirt riders are natures own. Only because of later evolutionary
constraints have we grown too large and ungainly to swing through the
trees anymore. Dirt bikes change all that. You can not only swing, but
leap and fly through the trees! I know this will hit home with those
who love trail riding as much as I do. People belong here too.
Population is killing the world. All of our problems stem from this
one fact. There are too many people here. Housing developments, roads,
malls, fields of corn and wheat, pollution, etc. kill off much more
habitat than my tires running over a trail ever will. At least the
animals can perk their ears up for a minute and then go about their
business when I am through.

The ECO-NUTS are those that don't see the real problem and want to
blame the little guys--the ones that are easy to knock over, while
ignoring the permanent trashing of the environment by the big guys. I
personally have worked for many hard weekends to make both hiking and
bike trails have low environmental impact, and to prevent erosion.
Please direct your energy to the real problems. Dirt bikers can only
help with this. Don't be an ECO-NUT. Be sane about it. We LOVE nature
too!

Very good! I second everything you said. Go tell it to "Moonbeam"(crazed
lunatic tree hugging, leaf licking pinko commie pseudo-environmentalist
hypocritic loser wacko). Getting out in the timber is the #2 reason I ride.
#1 is the ADRENALINE!!!!!

Mr. Romer I agree with this. But I think the real reason they go after the little guy is that most of the serious nuts are tied to a big guy somewhere that made/ makes his money from all that development.
So they don't see that as a problem. If it wasn't for some "fat daddy" they wouldn't have the time to run around trying to save the woods, they'd have to get a real job and worry about the things like making money to pay the bills. But since they don't have to worry about that they worry about " important issues".
I'm serious, go to one of those rallies and see for yourself. They are mostly made up of the wives and daughters of some "fat cat" that makes a pot full each year from running a chemical plant or developing land for malls or housing. The only "men" actively involved in the local groups are the sons of these rich guys and they are 30 something and are making a career out of going to college.

Hope it made you a better rider

The problem with this is the brain uses about the same amount of energy
whether it or any of it's modules are working or not.

Yes, I studies neuroscience too.
