Hallo:

Try contacting Linda and Mike Shevchuk who posted here 5/31/98. I would be
very interested in seeing some follow-up on what happened: whether the
problem was equipment failure, operator error (such as overloading the tip
at a particular elevation/waterflow), etc., as well as particulars about the
apparatus, such as ladder length, mounting (Midship, etc.), age . . ..

Hello,
A ladder truck in New Rochele collapsed on Saturday. I was not there
at the time but was called to work early as all 3 FF's on duty onthat rig
were relieved. As of today Tuesday 2 FF's have come back to work. Of the
two, one had a minor arm injury and the other was sent home from apparent
stress. The third FF is still off duty and the extent of his knee injury is
not known. Both of the injured were at the turntable when a weld broke at
the base of the ladder and it came crashing down albeit slowely. Waiting to
hear from Pierce and Smeal on what caused the mishap. Rig was set up
acording to SOP's. Outriggers down, wheels chocked, load leveled. Failure
came as men were raising ladder in preparation to climb for training
exercise. Will stay in touch. Michael Shevchuk
