I was able to introduce AS'er Andy to the summer surf season of
Joisey:

Phone call to NJ Guido (me)..... $0.35
NJ Turnpike Toll................ $5.20
NJ Parkway Toll................. $1.40
Gas burned during 3 hour 60
mile trip in stop & go traffic.. $7.00
Beach badge for B**dl*y......... $6.00
4 hours parking................. $4.00

Meeting a NJ AS'er and surfing waist high mush with 25 of the best NJ
has to offer........................... Priceless

It was my fault Andy had to experience the joys of Saturday beach
traffic on the Garden State Parkway, I drove North from working in
Virginia and beat him to the beach by about 90 mins. Before Andy
showed up I surfed on a big Windansea Cheroot Longboard, scoring long
rights off one of M@rk's secret ;-) surf spots. The waves were fun,
but the most impressive part of the session was the number of young
beautifully shaped women clad in string bikinis on surfboards. I
agree with whoever said (I think it was Foon) the Blue Crush Wave is
definitely building.

After about an hour in the water I went to my car to see how Andy was
faring in the traffic jam. When I dialed I heard a cell phone ring
across the street, he had made it. Andy showed up ready to go with 2
surfboards. We introduced ourselves and made for the water, the
conditions called for longboards, so Andy borrowed my buddy's odd
shaped log. We paddled out easily and parked among the pack. The
current quickly took us to the end of the surf zone and Andy was
treated to another NJ tradition, the whislte and wave of 16 year old
acne faced lifeguards telling you to move out of the swim zone. We
both caught some waves and I found myself surfing alone for a while,
when I got back to Andy he was starting to grow impatient with a
surfer nearby who had been backing off on waves that Andy let him
have, resulting in many to go by unridden. Andy decided to get
revenge by dropping in on, you guessed it...ME!;-) We shared my final
wave and headed back to the car. I had chores to do at home, so I
tried to give Andy directions to Surf Taco and Brave New World in
Point Pleasant and wished him luck with the rest of his NJ escapade.

Nice to meet you Andy, and remember: In NJ the ocean is on your left
when you are heading south.

Andy if you can find your way South one of the next two weekends we in Maryland
can show you as much fun since the guards will kick you out of the water by 9:30
am, but we won't charge you to go on the beach or pay for parking. Who knows, if
you put a call in soon you could be a guest at the bunker and reclaim your beer
cozy all at the same time :) My minions tell me OC was waist to chest this
weekend.

Ooops...just replying to my own reply to make
J.G. feel more at home.....Andy, did you get anything
from Claudette (Shaft?, is did I get the tropical
system spelled right?)? And, by the way, that question
was directed to the Andy that is still in the
southern state, not the A. Andy that seems to be
burning up the frequent flyer miles.

Sure Steve M (Not to be confused with plain ol' Steve, or Steve W), wasn't
the best, wasn't the biggest, wasent the uncrowded vahallia I had immagined.

No no it was crowded kookville, US of A.
But I scored my share of long period ground swell waving off shoulder
hoppers with the 2x4" I found on the beach.

All in all I had an awsome weekend, full o' surf.

Sorry Andy, Since I retired I've lost a lot of discernability rendering me
incapable of differentiating Andys online. I figure when it comes to
longboarders, stand 'em on their head and they're all Andys ;)

Now if you visit OC MD you can have all that and the women in bikinis, but you
have to put up with tourists from Jersey.
You can have the other Andy's beer cozy too, just because I don't discriminate
among Andys ;)

That's a fairly good impersonation of MrsFoon recently. Combined with a dope
slap and you've got it!!

Foonie!

Send me a phone number. Maybe I can talk Mike G into going as well.
Possibly even talking LA into meeting me there and she can bring my
longboard (that'd be a funny trip in her Acura).

And, YES, I'd be glad to pick up Andy's Koozie....as long as we're
talking cold adult beverage holding Koozie and not something else.

[I typed an epic reply earlier only to have google crap out and eat it
for me]

Here's the Reader's Digest version:

-Traffic was pretty bad
-It's probably a nice drive w/o the traffic
-NJ has neat beach towns
-Paying to walk on the beach was weird
-Not paying to park was somewhat karmic - I snookered a spot
-Not driving on the beach was weird
-The water was very clear
-The water was surprisingly cold - even though Mike warned me of the
temp (70s)
-Chicks surfing in bikinis abounded
-Waves were pretty good - but small - nice little break
-That board was unusual. I seem to remember hard rails. The odd
feature was the very thick nose. All that volume made for easy
paddling once I figured out where to position my body to sink the
nose. It paddled like a kayak.
-The first takeoff was pretty funny. I paddled into a wave, a little
back, but expected to make it easily. All the volume in the nose kept
me from pushing over the top. Methinks Mike got a secret little laugh
out of this
-The guy who kept paddling in then pulling out (at lease 3 times) also
kept finding his way inside of me no matter what I did. About the
time I'd had enough of him, Mike had to go.
-So, I snaked Mike instead
-I'm pretty sure when I turned back toward Mike (after snaking his
last wave) that guy was paddling in behind Mike.
-Fish tacos were good - Not Mama Kwans good - but good.
-A summer Saturday at a NJ beach is like 4 July at an NC beach.
-Lots and lots of cars.

Suffice it to say, I had a great time. Mike is great company and
quite the host (brought me a board, drove about the world to get
there, gave regular phone directions) and I appreciate it.

I'd recommend a trip to NJ to any of you.

Thanks Mike!

Thanks for the compliments, your welcome to surf with me anytime.
Keep an eye on the tropics, you may get to ride that short board
before you leave.
