At long last it is complete, the story I have been promising all of you.
A few notes before I hand out my disclaimer, though.

This is the longest story I have written to date for this newsgroup, and
it is certainly the strangest. I should point out that this story also
marks my first attempt at serious allegorical writing, and I would be
interested to see if anyone catches my meaning. Please feel free to
e-mail me with your guesses, or post them to the newsgroup. I'd like to
know how well I have succeeded at this experiment.

In the same vein, I should add that the lifeblood of a writer is feedback.
I value it higher than *breathing*. Postings and e-mail along the lines of
"Good show!" are of course well-received, but I am equally interested in
critiques and brickbats. Every comment I receive means my writing skills
will improve the next time.

Now, the DISCLAIMER THAT EVERYONE SHOULD READ. The following story is
rated "X" and should not be viewed by anyone who might be offended at
graphic descriptions of sex, death, and sometimes both in tandem. I have
managed to break a good half-dozen sexual taboos in this story, and I can
almost guarantee that *something* in it will offend you. Hell, it offends
*me* and I wrote the darn thing. If it offends you, by all means complain
to me and tell me what a perverse bastard I am. Please do NOT run to my
postmaster telling tales.

Now, EVERYONE READ THIS. This is the COPYRIGHT NOTIFICATION. The
following story entitled "Hunger" is copyright Andrew Nellis, 1997, and
may be reproduced only by the author's explicit permission. Copies may be
reposted to any newsgroup or web site provided: (a) notification is given
to the author, (b) NO CHANGES are made to the text beyond basic
reformatting and correcting for regional spelling differences and grammar, and
(c) this copyright notice remains affixed to the story. I apologize for
the legal claptrap, but this seems to be the only way I have a chance of
protecting my work from the ravages of "backseat editors."

Thanks for your time, and special thanks to Peter from the Black Plague
pages [ http://www.blackplague.org/peter ] for inspiring me with his
short-short story, "Tail Good Enough To Eat."
