Subject: How to use the CM8K engine(s) in CM9K...

This is simple (easy) for those that use CM8K in Fritz. This post is intended
for folks who just used CM8K and now wish to pit CM8K against CM9K or who wish
to delete the CM8K interface to save space but still want the capability to play
against CM8K.

1. Get inbetween.exe from here:
http://home.online.no/~malin/sjakk/download/InBetween.zip

2. Rename the file theking.exe in the CM8K folder to "TheKing.3.12d.exe"
3. Rename the file inbetween.exe from the zip file aboved to "theking.exe" and
place in the CM8K folder.
4. Create a plain file with these lines - assumimg your CM8K folder is
"C:\Program Files\Chessmaster 8000\"
================================================================================
[InBetween]
CommandLine := C:\Program Files\Chessmaster 8000\TheKing.3.12d.exe
Debug := 3

[Client2Server]
xboard := xboard\nhard\neasy\npost\nnew\ncm_parm default\ncm_parm opk=933353

[Server2Client]
================================================================================

Note - if you had modified CM8K personalities - you could insert your options
underneath the "[Client2Server]" heading. You can also modify the size of hasdh
tables here.

For example CM Grailmaster3 settings with 128 MB hash would look like this:

xboard := xboard\nhard\neasy\npost\nnew\ncm_parm default\ncm_parm opk=933353
myk=538523\ncm_parm opk opp=102 opn=102 opb=105 opr=102 opq=102\ncm_parm
myp=102 myn=102 myb=108 myr=102 myq=104\ncm_parm cc=102 mob=110 ks=150 pp=108
pw=128 avd=-2 cfd=0 sop=100 rnd=0 sel=10 md=99 ana=1\ncm_parm tts=134217728\n
================================================================================
5. Under the game menu, select import winboard engine, select the "theking.exe"
(the "inbetween.exe" renamed to the "theking.exe") select the book, and whether
or not you want pondering or EGDB.

6. Save it and you're ready to play CM8K under the CM9k interface.

Helpful Hints:

For multiple CM*K personalities, set a separate folder for each personality with
its own copy of inbetween.exe (renamed to the "theking.exe") and it own settings
in its own "inbetween.ini". They can point to the same copy of
"TheKing.3.12d.exe".

An additional benefit, is that the CM8K engine will now use the EGDB - making it
a stronger program and you can use it with the new CM9K book,

Good Luck!
