Sir Ranulph de Guernon, the 2nd Earl of Chester was born about 1100 and
died in 1153.

Can anybody on this list give any details on his background and his

My notes:
Succeeded his father as Earl of Chester in 1128. Buried in St. Werburg's,
Chester, ENG; Viscount of Averanches, St. Jaques, Earl Palatine. Earl of
Chester.

The monk Matthew Paris records "in this encounter chiefly deserveth honour the
most heroic William de Albini, the Briton, who with his sword broke through
the enemy and terminated the battle." When he became a supporter of the cause
of Empress Maud, his castle of Belvoir, with all his great possessions, were
seized
by King Stephen, who presented them to Ranulphgerons de Meschines, the Earl of
Chester.

Optimistic Dave
