Hi everyone, thought you might be able to help with my little problem about
Freeserve. What it is, is that I have changed internet providers but still
have the Freeserve logo coming up at the bottom of my screen every time I
log on. How do I get rid of this as it is causing some problems? I would
like to get rid of all the Freeserve stuff of the computer but I do not see
any way of getting rid of through add & remove.

Any help is much appreciated

Many thanks
Lynette

Hi everyone, thought you might be able to help with my little problem about
Freeserve. What it is, is that I have changed internet providers but still

Hi,
To remove Freeserve branding:
(This response on the same topic was provided by another user some time ago.
I have merely made a small addition to the section on Info Pane).

To remove the Freeserve logo:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Go to the directory C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Signup
3. You will find four bitmap files named 22.bmp, 22s.bmp, 38.bmp and
38s.bmp. Rename these files as ~22.bmp. ~22s.bmp, ~38.bmp and ~38s.bmp.
4. If you installed Freeserve from an early version of their CD,
you may also have a file named toolbar.bmp in the same folder. If so, rename
that file as ~toolbar.bmp
The logos in Internet Explorer and Outlook Express will now revert to the
standard Microsoft versions.

To remove the "little Freeserve window" at the bottom of Outlook Express:

1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on View
3. Click on Layout
4. Untick the box marked Info Pane
(If you normally launch Outlook Express first when you attempt to go online
it may be that in disabling Info Pane you also prevent the Connection dialog
box from appearing. If this happens there are ways round it - here are
three. You could place on your Desktop, shortcut(s) to your ISP(s) and
double click on them to dial up: you could re-enable Info Pane just before
you finish a particular session in OE, disabling it again as soon as you
have successfully connected up for a new session: you could launch your
Browser first and then OE after that). If all you wanted to do was remove
the Freeserve logo from the Info Pane, then you probably can't. This is
downloaded to you from Freeserve - see it merely as a mini Web page full of
links.

To remove the Freeserve wording from the headers in Internet Explorer and
Outlook Express:

1. From your desktop, click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type regedit and click on OK
4. In the Registry Editor click on Edit/Find and in the box presented make
sure all the options are checked. Then do a search against the value
"provided by Freeserve" (type these words exactly as per the Window Title in
Outlook Express)
5. The search should identify the correct registry entry - against
a key name of WindowTitle (Not Window_Title).
6. Double click on the name "WindowTitle" and edit out the words "provided
by Freeserve".
7. You will need to repeat steps 4,5 & 6 repeatedly - to remove any multiple
instances of the words "provided by Freeserve".
8. Don't change anything else in the Registry
9. Exit from the Registry Editor.
Good luck,
Ron.

You can also remove the content of the infopane by editing the
registry (the usual health warnings apply).

The infopane works, by downloading information from a web-site. In
the case of the Freeserve infopane, OE downloads its content from the
URL at http://www.freeserve.com/email/outlook/infopane.htm.

To remove the Freeserve branding:

Firstly, search through your harddrive for a file named "blank.htm".
You will probably find this file at C:\Windows\System\Blank.htm or
alternatively, at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Stationery\Blank.htm. Make a careful note of the full path and
file name.

Next, run regedit and search for
http://www.freeserve.com/email/outlook/infopane.htm (you only need to
search against "Data").
When you find an entry containing this web address, replace the entry
with C:\Windows\System\Blank.htm (or C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery\Blank.htm)

Continue your search through the registry and replace all further
occurrences of http://www.freeserve.com/email/outlook/infopane.htm .

Once you have completed this registry tweak, the Infopane in Outlook
Express will remain completely empty. No more links to Freeserve
web-sites!
