Chinese surname No.401 You2 (swim)
You2 means : swim; wandering; moving all the time.
e.g. You2 Yong3 means: swim
Surname You2 is about 2600 years old.
This is the history of surname You2.

King Li4 (reigned 878BC to 842BC) the No.10 King of the Zhou Dynasty
(1134BC to 250BC) came to the throne. He precipated a disaster. He
entrusted power to a financier named Rong2 Yi2 Gong. This financier
advised King Li4 to nationalize all the business in the land.
During that time members of the royal family dominated the
business world and they controlled the economy of the country. They
resented the policy of nationalization. They hated King
Li4 who applied pressure to stop the disturbance. He established a secret
police force who patrolled the streets. They would arrest anyone who dared
to criticize the King.
Eventually in 842BC a revolt broke out by the members of the royal
family against the nationalization. The revolt was successful. The financier
was killed. King Li4 fled to the west and settled down in a place called Zhi4
(present day Huo4 Xian4 in Shanxi province). He established a pig farm
and lived there peacefully until he died in 828BC.
While King Li4 was in power he delegated one of his sons named Ji You3
to rule a city called Zheng4 (fomerlly it was called You3 Xiong2 the home
town of Yellow Emperor now present day Xin Zheng4 city in Henan province).
It was renamed as the State of Zheng4. The title for the ruler was Bo2
(Count or Earl) and it was inheritable.
State of Zheng4 became the most powerful State in the land. During
Spring and Autumn Period (722BC to 481BC) State of Zheng4 conquered and
annexed the State of Dai4 in 713BC.
In 627BC Mu4 Gong became the ruler of Zheng. He had 13 sons. The
numbered seven son was called Zi3 You2. Mu4 Gong died in 605BC and his
elder Zi3 Yi2 became the leader and his titled was Ling2 Gong. State of
Chu3 (present day Jiang Ling2 Xian4 in Hubei province) was planning to
attack Zheng. The 13 brothers were arguing over the tactics to defence
their State. The 2nd brother Zi3 Gui engagged a killer and had the ruler
Ling2 Gong assissnated. The third brother Zi3 Jian became the leader and
his title was Xiang Gong. Xiang Gong planned to expel all his brothers
from the State but he was persuaded to drop the idea by another brother
who told him that a tree with many branches with bushy leaves was much
strong than a tree without branches and leaves. (full story see charpter
52 Dong Zhou Lie Guo Zhi).
Some of the descendants of the 7th brother Zi3 You2 adopted You2 as
their surnames. That was how surname You2 came about.

Surname You2 was originated in an area called Guang Ping2 Prefecture
during the Han4 Dynasty (206BC to 220AD).
Guang means : wide; extensive; vast; ample; broad
Ping2 means : flat; level; smooth; plain.
The present day location of Guang Ping2 Prefecture is in Ji Ze2
Xian4 in Hebei province China.
