... allegedly!

In ' The Times' today it says they are trying to buy some of Morrisons stores.
Well that is sort of it - in a nutshell.

Will be interested to see how it goes.

As I once calculated that Morrisons had stores at two miles intervals
covering central Bradford and the outskirts, and we do not have a Safeways

I'm happy with pigs trotters and whippet soufflé.
Waitrose just seems painfully pretentious and gullible southerners are
welcome to pay over the odds for their monosodium glutenate.

A quick 'google' and it looks as if we are both right.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3566925.stm - plus more urls

Harrogate, N Yorkshire
Otley, W Yorkshire
Sandbach, Cheshire
Sheffield, S Yorkshire
Southport, Merseyside
Willerby (Hull), E Yorkshire

These are places rumoured to be likely to get a Waitrose store.
Are they not in the north??? :)
Well some of them ...

Bit difficult to define North that way if one lives in Berwick On Tweed,
Or perhaps Cape Wrath, John o' Groats, or Lerwick ;-)

Nothing near enough to Bradford :-)

BTW According to Look North, BBC1 local news, Morrisons will only rebrand
50 Safeways stores in the first year. At £2m per store, you can see why.

However, I bet you will see "M" (Morrisons) brand goods on the shelves
soon. These are middle of the market for quality, and below middle of the
market for price, well worth buying once to see if you like them. Also
Betterbuy which is Morrisons cheap brand, variable quality, but worth
trying.

Otley!

Hmm. That will be in direct competition to Booths in Ilkley.

Much as I like Waitrose I'll still travel that extra six miles up the road,
Ilkley has other attractions and Booths has served us very well.

Harrogate has a reputation in Yorkshire of being the poshest part of GOC.

I think it's more being suspicious of those who have been our traditional

I haven't, but since I live in a very rich area I wouldn't.

I don't know about that. I feel it, instinctively, but I rarely go to the
south. Perhaps it's that many southerners appear to look down on us.
