HOCKEY NEWS FOR 12/27/89

Dineen scored a goal at 3:24 of overtime to give the Whalers a 4-3 win over the
Soviet Wings. The Soviet Wings are now 0-2 on their tour of the NHL.
Shtepa had 2 goals for the Wings; Verbeek, Samuelsson, and Babych had the other
goals for Hartford.

Winnipeg got the game winner from Olausson in the 2nd period and then got
insurance goals from Kumpel and Smail as the Jets dumped the Soviet Red Army
4-1. The Red Army is now 0-1 on their tour of the NHL. Kostichkin got the
lone goal for the Red Army; Steen had a 1st period goal for Winnipeg.

Chicago BlackHawks defenseman Dave Manson recieved an additional 10 game
suspension for his role in a brawl in Toronto on Saturday. Manson had already
received a 3 game suspension for knocking over an official during the 15 minute
fight. The Hawks said it will not challenge the 3 game suspension ruling but
will challenge the 10 game suspension ruling.
