The Daily Oklahoman decided that I don't need to see this "disgusting"
story line since "it is in the other pages of this paper, and doesn't
belong on the comics page as well". Yes, that means they are not running
it. They, like other papers that don't let the readers decide what to
read, are running old strips.

Personally, I would like to thank them. Thank you from the bottom of
my heart, Oklahoman. Because of you, I discovered the Dallas Morning News.
You see, I was told DMN WOULD run the strip. I decided I DO want to read
it, I think for myself. So...I run out and buy a copy. I am pleased
to discover the DMN is a VASTLY better paper. Bigger paper, more for
your money. In the comics area alone, it has four full pages, compared
to your one.

And, the entire "slant" of the paper is different. This paper doesn't seem
to TELL you EXACTLY what to think. I like that. I also like the FBOFW
storyline, and want to see how it goes. Also, I don't think this is a
"one-shot deal". We will see Lawrence's friend in the future...you
can't censor every strip he appears in.

Again, thanks to the Daily Oklahoman. Due to the fact that you couldn't
let ME decide for myself, I went and found another paper. It turned out
to be a much better paper.

Responding to popular demand (ok - one or two):

Today's (01-APR-1993) strip (for those who can't get it)
(Sorry I left 31-MAR-1993 at home - but it is all of Mike
walking away in confusion, kicking a fire hydrant, smashing
a stop sign, thinking "It isn't happening - he ISN'T gay" etc.
Then coming to reality as the pain of socking these hard objects
hits him - "Maybe it _is_ real" - apologies for the paraphasing,
but I think I got the gist.)

(Any complaints about quoting a copywritted strip - tell it to
the wimp newspapers who won't print it for their loyal readers.)

Lawrence: (to Mike) "Are you OK?"
Mike: "Yeah. I'm OK now."

M: "Lawrence, what I wanna know is _when_?"
L: "... I've known I was different for a couple of years.
But it was always there.:

L: "It's kind of interesting, Mike! The aboriginal people
considered us 'Mystics'. They call us 'two spirited' - meaning
that we're blessed with both female and male spirits!!"

M: "Like half of you wants to shop - and the other half
wants to watch football?!"
L: hand on head, eyes closed in grimace, mouth pursed - sorta
like he just heard a _bad_ pun

(Can't resist my comments - again I notice the drawing of Mike
resembling Ellie and Liz (and some John) - the long hair blowing
about, the soft features - maybe it's just the limitations of the
drawing, but he could pass if need be. Lawrence, on the other
hand, with his short-sided flat-top and stance is definitely masculine
- so much so he could pass as Butch in at least one panel. Maybe I'm
reading too much into this, but the 'two spirited' thing certainly
flies in this episode. Still waiting for the rest of the crew
to get involved. Guesses: John - closed eyes, finger wagging,
lecturing Mike not to associate (hang out would be too suggestive)
with this ... this ... _pervert_; Ellie - wide-eyed, reflective,
wondering, hitting the library; Lawrence's mom - ballistic;
Liz - spinning whirls in her thick glasses, probably relegated to
minor part as 'little girls aren't supposed to know about love',
though they generally got more down on relationships than adult male
'experts' ever dig in all their professional careers.
Farley - Yawwwnnnnn, sniff, lick )
