You mean big-name software that everyone has heard of, like Excel and
PageMaker? There are probably none of those written in dBASE. But here
in California, most lawyers who practice family law out of small to
medium-sized firms (or who practice on their own) know of a program
called "Community Property Divider 2000" that makes the messy property
division between divorcing spouses far easier to manage. It was
written in dB2K. I think most dBASE apps are niche apps or in-house
apps for companies and other organizations.

Thank you for your response. It's nice to see
that you build very nice product with VDBase.
If I understand, we don't know products sell in a box
in a computer store that have been written in DBase?
Sylvain
Paul,
Thanks for your request.
Unfortunately at this time an english version of our product it's not
available.
The translation task is very hard to perform, and actually we are trying to
expand our business here in Italy.

No, you will not find many dBase programs shrink-wrapped
and available in retail stores as most programs are of a vertical
market type. In other words, the majority of programs available
in retail stores are of a generic type, programs that are not
targeted for a small market segment. dBase programs tend to
written and marketed towards smaller market segments, vertical
markets, and not mass produced. If you look at the type of
program that users of dBase have developed, such as ours,
AutoTraker, which is marketed just for Automotive Repair
shops, you'll see the limited market each is designed to sell in.
You'll also find they have a average retail price far in excess of
the average retail store type of product. A high retail price tag
doesn't lend itself to being mass marketed very easily.
This is not to say that you couldn't mass market a dBase
application, you can, and I'm sure there are a few examples
out there. Regardless, if you have an idea for a mass marketed
type of application you wish to develop and are not sure dBase
is the right development platform for you, post your ideas here
and we can give you better guidance as to whether dBase is
right for you.

Scott's Box Shot Maker 3.0
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
The Scott's Box Shot Maker program is a unique marketing tool and
image-editing software that creates a virtual package for your product. A
box shot is a colorful image of the box in which your product would be
packaged if it were on the shelf at a software store. Now you can use your
company's existing logos and promotional images to create a virtual box with
ease, whether you've actually developed packaging or not. Box shots are a
key motivating factor in potential customers' perception of overall product
quality and their willingness to download your product.
Scott's Box Shot Maker is donationware!

Once you've downloaded and installed the Scott Box Shot program, simply
click on Tucows founder Scott Swedorski's beautiful, yet somewhat disturbing
face, and follow the instructions for placing images on the box's front and
side. You can then manipulate the width, depth and orientation of your new
packaging until you've come up with the perfect at-a-glance representation
of your marketing message.
The latest build of this neat application features some very cool additions
including:
The ability to drag and drop images
Support for multiple file types
The ability to choose the angle at which your boxshot is displayed
The ability to choose the final image dimensions
Scott Box Shot is currently available free of charge to all Microsoft
Windows 95/98/2000/Me/NT/XP users. Unfortunately, it is not yet available
for operating systems other than Windows.
