I am not quite sure that I understand your question. Are you asking about vision or about
visual imagery (related topics, but not the same thing)? Anyway, if it is imagery you are
after the most recent textbook must be _Mental Imagery_ by J.T.E. Richardson [Psychology
Press: Hove, U.K. 1999]. A briefer and even more current account from a more philosophical
perspective can be found in my entry on imagery for the forthcoming _Macmillan
Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science_; preprint available on my web site (along with much
other relevant stuff) at http://www.calstatela.edu/faculty/nthomas/mipia.htm . For a
recent account of the nature of imagery that relates it to schemata (unlike Richardson and
most other imagery researchers) see my "Are theories of imagery theories of imagination?
An active perception approach to conscious mental content," [Thomas, N.J.T. (1999)
_Cognitive Science_ (23) 207-245], online at
http://www.calstatela.edu/faculty/nthomas/im-abs.htm . If you are looking for the latest
in the theory of visual perception, I would recommend "A sensorimotor account of vision
and visual consciousness," by J.K.O'Regan & A. Noë, forthcoming in _Behavioral and Brain
Sciences_, and available online at http://nivea.psycho.univ-paris5.fr/ .
