OK, here's the scenario: Rod is in town for his pre-GP2K1
duties in Va.Beach. He lets me know when and where he's
gonna be. I e-mail him and let him know I'll probably
stop by and hopefully catch a session if the waves are
good. I get home after school and it's a great day,
weather-wise: Sunny, 80-some degrees, offshore winds.
I find out Rod has a break between work and dinner, so
I hop on my trusty, rusty bike to check out the surf and
either turn around to get my board, or continue on if
there's no surf.

I pedal on down to the boardwalk, enjoying the
late afternoon warmth and nice breeze. I get down
to the boardwalk, look out at the water, and.....
Flat. Flat, flat, flat. No point in getting the
board, so I continue to bike along the boardwalk...
At least it's a nice day. As I look out at the
water, all I can think is, "Damn, this is the
flattest I've seen it all year...Even in the
dead of Bermuda High summer, I've seen more than
this."

As I continue pedalling along and shaking my
head in bewilderment, wondering what went wrong,
it occurs to me: KEENER! "Damn, it's the Keener
factor!" No, he's no longer on the East Coast,
but he had just visited here. Not only that, but I
think he met up with Rod. And now, Rod is here and
it's as flat as I've seen it in a long time.
It's Keener! I think Keener is contagious, and his
swell-killing virus was passed on to Rod. Talk
about your biological warfare!

Anyway, I got to Rod's room and knocked on the
door, but no answer. So, I continued to the
end of the boardwalk and did notice a few of the
"social surfers" squeezing a few short rides out
of some Lemons for waves. They were probably
about knee high at best....Lemons for sure.

After watching the squeeze-fest for a little
while, I hopped back on the bike and started
pedalling back up the boardwalk. As I approached
Rod's temporary abode, I saw the sillouette of
a person on the balcony of Rod's room. Hmmmm,
maybe he was outside on the deck and didn't
hear my knock. I went back up to his 12th
floor penthouse view and knocked a little harder
on the door this time. Sure enough, he answered.
In his usual part generous, part noble effort to
culture me, he offered me a beer of higher quality
than the usual Bud Light I drink.

We talked some
of the dying Va.Beach swell, and some of
the upcoming GP2K1 event along with my
still unfinalized plans of exactly when I
will be attending--But hey, that's how
a surf trip is supposed to be anyway, right?

Anyway, I've already made my guarantee for rideable
waves (waist or better) for GP2K1, and with a strong
front expected to pass on Saturday (I think we'll get
some wind swell early), and with some tropical systems
trying to form (I think will get some tropical juice
later like Wednesday or Thursday), I'm still holding
with the guarantee. I tell ya what, though, with
Rod, Foon?, and some other GP2K1 attendees who have
been in contact with Keener lately, I think I have
a formidable fight to overcome the Keener factor and
his contagious swell-killing virus.

Did Dave Blake send you on a mission, Keener??

You're on it, SteveM. It's that damn Keener Kontagious swell killing
virus. I left Baltimore on Tues 4 a.m. to catch some of the cleanup
from that NE'ster but hit some aweful traffic around Newport News that
set me back an hour. Early moring had shoulder to slightly o/h, but
was declining rapidly with the approaching Rod carrying Keener virus.
I did manage to catch some waist to shoulder for 2 hours before
kicking out for work meetings.

GP2K1 is facing a formidable challenge in overcoming the Killer Keener
virus. We are going to require a strong antidote or some good voodoo.
Several GPers may have this virus: DeeDee, SurfSarge, Neal Carver,
Ferg, Andy and myself. Someone please stop at a toy store and pickup
one of those toy motorcycles or maybe one from your old kiddie's
collection -- make it a silver one -- we may have to make a sacrifice
Sat night.

The waves in VaBeach have been real lemons the last couple of days.

Bah, humbug! Ask M@rk if my luck is contagious. I'll bet the Sarge has
been cashing in, too.

Isn't it curious that a detailed account of that visit has never
been posted, when rumors abound that massive quantities of alcoholic
beverages were consumed and bachannalesque-ritualistic festivities
were observed including persons of the female persuasion.

Suds and skirts always lower the power of a viral virus, dontchaknow.
Ergo, NJ was spared the full effect of the plague.

Do you want a guaranteed anti-Keener
spell for the GP2? Simple. Copy
Surff's pic off of Cam's page, tape
it to the thermos, get Sarge
inebriated and have him bow down to
to the Thermos and say "we
love Surff". It's your only hope.

you can't blame this on keener anymore.
everywhere else has waves except for
gp2k1 central.

face it foon.......YOU FUCKED UP........

if you hadn't 've been selfish, it would
have been in September and you would
have scored waves. and you would scored
waves with your buddies Utah and
Lemons!. you and the rest of the
traitors on the planning committee are
being punished.

Oh, NO! Don't tell us you've become one of those frickin _lake
surfers_. Next, you'll be telling us Clear Lake has better right
points than anywhere on the East Coast.

Truth be told, I was waiting for two reasons. One, I needed some time
for my memory to sort fantasy from reality and gain a bit of
objectivism. Two, I knew you guys are heading out of town and I didn't
want to spill the beans when you might not be online to refute, er ah,
_add_ more details to the story. BTW, while my travels around the
country reinforced my contention that San Diego is a world class
center of feminine pulchritude, I must say I was favorably impressed
by the Jersey Shore. And the A.S contingent is holding their own. But
you knew that.

Yes, we had much fun hanging out.
It hasnt been posted because I've been busy scrambling for
work, going to funerals and weddings, and other general mayhem.
You see, his visit to NJ was not just a one night thing or
even just a few our meeting. It was an entire weekend.
Stuff went on I dont think he'd want me to even talk about! <LOL>
