unit.

steam back to feedwater for the main engine.An auxiliary condenser is
much smaller and performs the same function for each of the ship's
steam powered electrical generators.

I only know how the Navy uses gas turbines in ships afloat, like the
ones in the Spruance class destroyers. It is essentially a huge jet
engine that uses dry gas instead of steam to drive it's turbine.

The USN has been using them since 1862 and they have the safety angle
pretty well under control. Navy ships operate at different steam
pressures, depending on their function in the fleet. Most older USN
ships 600 PSI. The new greyhounds(destroyers) have a 1200 PSI plant.
Those babies are dangerous-a pinhole steam leak from a 1200 PSI plant
can cut your finger right off.The advantage of 1200 PSI is POWER and
quicker response to emergencies.
