'allo, 'allo....Nighthawk 'ere...

Amazingly, I can't seem to find any information about this show, " 'Allo
'Allo", on the internet. No web pages, no FAQs - not even a mention on
general pages about comedies from the UK. I only saw it once mentioned by
someone who said he had some episodes on tape, but that's it!

I've got nearly 50 episodes on tape with only a couple of holes and I'd
really like to find out more information about it, if anyone has any. How
many episodes are there in all? Did it just fade out, or was there a
proper ending? (Who finally got the painting of the fallen Madonna with
the big boobies by van Krump and the painting of the cracked vase with the
big daisies by van Gock? Did those airmen ever get back home? Did Rene
every run off with Yvette or Mimi? Did Lt. Gruber ever find what he was
looking for?)

In case you're wondering, this is a comedy done by those who did AYBS?,
made in he mid-80s, and takes place in France occupied by the Germans.
Rene owns a cafe and, although he wants to lead a quiet life making money
and cuddling his waitresses behind his wife's back, is forced to help the
Resistance fight the Germans and rescue British airmen (to little avail)
and to help certain German officers hide certain valuable paintings for
sale after the war (also to little avail). He is also harrassed by the
Gestapo, the Communist Resistance and an undertaker who wants to marry his
wife (since he was shot dead and became his own twin brother). The plot is
long, confused, and incredibly funny. Unlike many of the British comedies
I have seen, the cast is huge (nearly 20 who appear regularly, if not
every episode) and the plot is constant and long running, like a soap
opera.

If anyone can give any pointers or provide any information, I'd really
appreciate it.

Don't know.

There is a proper last episode.

That would be too much of a spoiler.

Which ones?

Yes, sort of. :->

Yes. And it wasn't what he thought it was. :->

I'll answer some of these questions, but first off - does anybody know
where I can purchase the series? The last time it was on must have
been 6 or 7 years ago, and even my relatives in England and France
can't help me.

There was a proper ending to it, when Rene decided to run for the
Swiss border by train, and attempted to do so WITHOUT his wife, the
germans, and so on. Unfortunately, in a mix-up (are you surprised?)
all of the above come along, as well as Yvette, and the gold. You
know, I can't remember who ended up with the original paintings -
there were so many copies! And the airmen...the last I remember of
them was trying to surrender to the Italian officer. <grin> As far
as I know, Lieutenant Gruber never did go out with Rene.

Brings back a lot of good memories. "You stuuuuupid woman," "I will
say this only vonce," and "The painting of the Madonna with the big
boobies by Van Gogh". =)

"Then we die gloriously!"

I'm addicted to 'Allo 'Allo.

I think the characters are wonderful..
Herr Flick, Von Smallhausen, Edith, her aged mother,
Helga, Rene, Lt. Gruber, the Colonel, et al.
They're SO GREAT.

What a show. (I've never seen the ending
but I don't want it to end!)

Unfortunately, it's not available on commercial video at this time.

Visit my web site for as-complete-as-I-can-make-it information
on 'Allo 'Allo:

http://www.coldcut.com/video/aa

> >How many episodes are there in all?

Around 80.

There was a proper ending -- nearly ten years after the show began.

The cracked vase simply vanishes from sight. The Fallen Madonna ends
up... ah... if you really want to know, drop by the web site. It
gets fairly complicated.

> Did those airmen ever get back home?

Yes. Repeatedly. :-)

> >Did Rene
> >every run off with Yvette or Mimi?

Frequently. :-)

Hmmm... it depends on what you mean. I don't think so, though.

You appear to be describing the ending of series 5. Actually,
the show continued for four more years after this. In the original
American syndication package (the one available in the mid-late 80's
and early 90's), the shows ended with series 5. But now the BBC
offers all nine series (except for the mysteriously-missing series 6)
for syndication -- which means any PBS stations currently showing it
are showing nearly all of the episodes.
