Mike,

Ann C. Crispin <AnnCr...@aol.com> of Writer Beware [1], already posts
to this group regularly, and has just recently posted a warning about
this scamster, so Bryna is already either in touch with her, or should
be.

How exactly does the scam work? Do they publish books and not pay or
something?

Worse. They take the money from the writer and then don't publish. I
think Writer Beware has a saying, that money always goes *from* the
publisher *to* the writer, and any publisher or "literary agency" that
tells you different is a scam. Their other saying is "the only place
you as a writer should be signing checks is on the back".

Giving credit where it's due, I believe both of those sayings
originate with James D. Macdonald, a.k.a. Yog Sysop. The former is
properly "Yog's Law: Money flows _toward_ the writer."

You have the second one in its exact paradigmatic form, so far as I
can tell.
