Wallflowers Record 'Guardian' Theme
VARIETY

"The Guardian" will be rockin' to a new beat this fall - literally.

Creator and executive producer David Hollander has snagged Grammy-winners
the Wallflowers, led by Jakob Dylan, to record a new theme song for his
sophomore CBS drama.

Dubbed "The Empire in My Mind," the song is a wistful tune that will be
shortened to about 45 seconds as part of a new main title sequence.

Hollander said landing Dylan was a remarkably simple process - he just
asked.

"I wrote a fan letter to Jakob basically asking if they had any interest in
writing a new theme song, and remarkably, they did," Hollander said.

Hollander said he listened to a lot of Wallflowers tunes when he was writing
the pilot for "The Guardian" a couple years back. "Their music was part of
the fabric of what was emotionally influencing me as I wrote the pilot," he
said.

After Dylan agreed to pen the tune, he watched a number of episodes to help
him craft the song, which describes a man with "trouble in my mind" who sees
"dark and light." The tune was inspired by the show's conflicted title
character, played by Simon Baker.

"It's very much Jakob's interpretation of our main character's emotional
state," Hollander said. "I was pretty blown away when I heard it."

The Wallflowers' CBS presence this fall won't be limited to "The Guardian,"
however.

The band has already filmed a cameo appearance on CBS' megahit "CSI," which
is set to air early next month.

This so friggin' lame. Why do net goons feel the need to "fix" something
thar wasn't broken in the first place?

I've already had an uneasy feeling about season #2. This doesn't make me
feel any better...

AMEN! Of course, I'd rather someone change a theme song than overhaul
the cast in season two and then scratch their heads about the sophomore
slump like idiots, but still, a BAD sign ...

I haven't read much about season two myself, but I what I read didn't
make me nervous. I learned to have a little more faith in the show when
it didn't tank after they changed the direction of the legal services
...

Hey, at least you won't get a horrible theme song like they did to "Ed."
It still makes me cringe, it's horribly wrong.
Wish they got the Wallflowers to write a song for it.

Yes, ladies and getleman, it worked in movies, now in TV. We have tv
shows in order to sell CDs! Is it cross-pollination or
cross-contamination? Do I see tv shows appearing for the sole reason
to sell overpriced CDs? No, thankfully, the Partridge Family Two
seems to be far off.

Way to jump to conclusions! It wasn't "network goons" who wanted to change the
theme. The show's creator thought the old theme was "cheesy" and wanted the
change. As the creator, seems to me like that's his right to make a switch.

Scally: The creator wanted to change the premise of the show after four or five
episodes too, right?

What's Scally Watching's Cinematic Review of the Month for September, 2002:
"Chinese Boxes" (1984) - OK, I "liked" the part where Will Patton was playing
Spike on his Vectrex, but can any of yous explain to me why it's called
"Chinese Boxes" if he's in, like, Germany? If they did a sequel, you suppose
they'd send him to China and call it "German Boxes?" This movie was neat, but
the title just doesn't make any "sense."
