The bloke who talked backwards was also a quiz show about
spies on kid's Tv, which also had Bill Pertwee (or was it
Ron Pickering?) At one point every week, the contestants
had to destroy some evidence written on ricepaper by
eating it. Back-talk bloke used to say "Don't eat paper
at home - it could make you very sick". I remember them
showing 'The Adventure Game' on Tuesdays or Thursdays, just
before repeats of 'Star Trek'.

OK guys, forget my last comment (which has probably now been cancelled).
I have collected together all the postings from that particular discussion
(courtesy of mcc's news server, which seems to have a remarkably long

BTW Maybe that's what the FAQ needs to be. A listing of Frequently
Discussed Subjects together with a URL that points to the particular
discussion (or at least the pertinent information from it). Any volunteers?
I suppose tardis is the obvious place to put this information. Does anyone

I was only about 10 or 12 when they showed it. It scared me !

Yep. There was a bloke with white hair who couldn't hear without
his glasses on. He was the "boss". And there were three "celebrities"
who show after show failed to work out that the value of the
currency used was based on the no. of sides of the shape of the coin.
There was also a show called the Great Egg race which was slightly
similar - each week three teams would have to solve a problem while
Professor Heinz Wolff swanned around. Come to think of it, it wasn't
similar at all, was it?!!

I know we've only discussed this a couple of weeks ago, but then again, it is
a truly excellent program!

Oh, I'd forgotten him. I don't think he was quite the boss, because he
was always reverent towards the aspidistra/teapot. Wasn't he Gnoard's
uncle/father/grandfather/some other relation?

Now that was another top 80's program, which I used to enjoy. It amazed me
that the contestants efforts worked, sometimes. Recently, there's been a
sort of watered-down imitation of this on C4, called something to do with
Einstein, presented by Richard Vranch (now he's second only to Christopher
Lillicrap for unfortunate names...)

Erp? Am I missing something, here? Does "Vranch" mean something obscene?
