I like Quaker Boy's Old Boss Hen a lot. It's a very forgiving
diaphragm, and gives me a better yelp than I get otherwise.
The Primos Limb Hanger is nice too, but difficult to call softly
on. The True Double is nice for soft, sweet calls.
There's a Quaker Boy that is bright red...forget the name, but
I like it 'cause it's thin and easy to hold in my cheek while
I'm hiking across a ridge (gasp...huffa...whew !). I've used it
to troll for jakes in mid afternoon early in the season. I've
only pulled one in tho'...
If a hunting show is coming thru your area, you maybe can find
someone selling a hand made box call. I got a beauty for $25
that way. One side is raspy, one softer. Nice box.
I'm still looking for the perfect crow call. I lost one two
years ago (a Haydel ?) that was unique in that you could bite
down on the mouthpiece to control the pitch (young/old crow).
If you blow sideways across the reeds, it's a Hawk scream.
Check Haydel or Lohman crow calls, it was one of these.
Woods Wise makes a pushbutton box call that makes a nice
purr or simple yelp. That's all it does, but does it well.
Good Luck -
