My cousin and I were recently involved in a colossal argument over the lyrics to They Might Be Giants' "Don't Let's Start" from Miscellaneous T.. I thought that the lyrics were "Don't Don't Let's Start." He says it's "Don't Don't Don't Let's Start" (three don'ts!). I admit there's a bit of a pause at the beginning of the word "let's" but--not enough to be another "don't." After digitizing the lyrics, I slowed it down, but that didn't help either. The picture of the sound looks like only three

consonants--three breaks in the sound. Anyway, the disc jacket, of course, only says "Don't Let's Start."

Of course, it's a silly [semantic] argument. But I'd really like some 'objective' opinions!

I definitely hear three "don't"s, no question about it.

Also, check out the album the song originally appeared on, their self-titled
debut album. It's entirely excellent.

I haven'y checked out the Misc. T version, but there are definitely three
"Don't"s on the album version. &'m extremely sure of this, particularly
because I have the LP on right now, and the song partially inspired my
show name. (The other being King Crimson's "Catfood")
