2.Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland
born 1292, died 9 April 1327
In 1314 he commanded the left wing of the Scottish
army at the battle of Bannockburn. In 1315 he married
Marjorie Bruce which made him the son-in-law of King
Robert Bruce. In 1316 he was Regent of Scotland during
the absence of Robert the Bruce who had gone to Ireland.
He defended Berwick against the English and, in 1322 with
Douglas, made a raid into Yorkshire and nearly kidnapped
King Edward II. He died on 9 April 1327.
