I've seen this happen to me often. If a line was open and gets interrupted,
the first time another REMOTE is done, the software then discovers that the
remote end has disconnected, or it can no longer communicate for some reason.
It then promptly displays the error message and gives up. Upon trying again,
(I *think*) this time the software now knows the link is dead and goes through
re-establishing it, and then proceeds to open a new connection.

Another similar, but different problem sometimes occurs on slow links or when
your local nameserver must lookup a remote name (that hasn't yet been cached)
and the remote nameserver is slow or only accessible via a slow or overloaded
link, the initial DSLINE may fail, while a second one immediately afterwards
will then work.
