Here's a strong second to any publisher reading. I'd buy Breakdowns in a
heartbeat. It's rep alone should help it sell more than most indie
titles, I would think.
Just don't put it out, Mrs. or Mr. Publisher, in an exclusive hardcover
leatherbound edition costing $25. I'm not that much of a collector. Just
reprint the original pages, give it a color cover, and ship the thing to
my neighborhood store, ok? If it's normal comic book length, I'd pay up
to, oh, $5-6 for a copy.

There's the strip in New City, a weekly Chicago newspaper. It's free
around here, but can be subscribed to. In his interview in Destroy
All Comics #1, Ware seemed to be disappointed with the strip at the
time, and with the paper's policy of giving very short notice about
how many colors the strip would be printed in, but it's pretty good
stuff. I think he was printed in Raw as well, though I don't know
which one.

True enough, but the problom is _Breakdowns_ is a full-length book
book [sic.] It collects Spiegelman's work of the seventies, and is in
color I believe, though I have never seen a copy.
Even softcover would probobly be around $15. But even so, considering
that everything else under the comics sun gets reprinted, why not
that?
The answer may lie with Spiegelman himself.

When I went to the Narrative Corpse signing, I asked Spiegleman if it
would ever come back in print, and he said, "Most likely, no."

Thanks for the info. I had a much different image of it--as an
underground comic printed on the cheap and passed around to a few
discerning readers.

Who needs it in hardcover? Not me. Since I now know that it was graphic
novel length rather than comic book length, I'm prepared to go up to
$12-15 for a copy. I can't imagine why no one's reprinted it with a soft
cover yet, unless (as a previous post suggested) Spiegelman himself has a
problem with it being reprinted. Given how I feel about work I did 20
years ago, I can see how he might want to keep Breakdowns' status
legendary. ;)

It definitely exists because I have a copy that I found in a used
bookstore. Sorry, it's not for sale.
I was lucky enough to meet Art in 1991 at a book signing and he was
gracious enough to sign eveything I brought with me as he did an interview
for "Comics Interview" #108. My collection is mentioned several times
during that interview and at one point Art exclaims that seeing all these
comix with his work in them is like dying and having his life flash before
his eyes.
