Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to run Broadcast 2000 under a Debian
system. I've attempted to convert an RPM of this app via Alien.

However I hit a roadblock with reference to an item called libXv.so.1
Apparently this file is nonexistent. The closest I can find under my
Debian install is libXv.a, whch does not appear to be a substitute. Any idea
how I might be able to resolve this problem?

Hello. I'm running broadcast2000, version 2000c-2, on a
mostly potato machine (some testing upgrades) and it
runs and is usable, but it does show some instability.
ldd show no mention of the libXv.so requirement and I
can't find anything else on this lib, either. Other
than the lack of documentation on how to use the program
effectively, it seems to work.

I'd suggest building it from source.

I believe the file can be created by the following commands (I remember
this hack from the xine mailing list):

su -
cd /usr/X11R6/lib
ld --whole-archive -shared -o libXv.so.1 libXv.a

Thanks very much...this did the trick, although I also had to drag a copy of
the so file over to the Broadcast directory as well.

So far its a bit unstable on my system...but it might be OE (operator error)
right now, as I start getting used to playing with video editing.

A: Seemed logical -- I didn't have any real intelligence.

Running ldconfig allowed bcast to find libXv.so.1 correctly.
