BURBANK, November 4, 2002 . . . The 11th incarnation of the multimedia
phenomenon "Power Rangers" -- "Power Rangers: Ninja Storm," a live action
series combining exciting action, humor and drama, begins production this
week in Auckland, New Zealand. "Power Rangers: Ninja Storm" will air on
both broadcast and cable television beginning in February 2003 -- on ABC
Kids, the ABC Television Network's Saturday morning lineup, and on ABC
Family's kids' action/adventure programming block.
Douglas Sloan and Ann Austen, former writers and producers on "Power
Rangers" (1993-97), return as executive producers. Koichi Sakamoto, a
sixteen-year veteran of the global franchise, is the co-executive producer
and episodic director. Janine Dickens is the producer.
Boosted by martial arts-based action and adventure, the stories revolve
around ordinary teens who take on extraordinary powers to defend the world
when intergalactic evil threatens the Earth. Told from the power teens
point of view, the episodes feature the teens in both their "civilian" and
"superhero" lives as they struggle to grow up and grow into their roles as
heroes.
To the outside world, Tori, Shane and Dustin have typical teen lives in Blue
Bay Harbor: fun, friends, school and hanging out at Storm Chargers Action
Sports store. Shane's a skateboarder, Dustin races motocross, and Tori's a
beach-loving surfer. But they have one special thing in common - they are
students at a secret Ninja school where, under the careful teachings of a
wise Sensei, they've trained in the ancient ways of the Ninja. Before long,
their world changes when Lothor, a Ninja master banished to space for his
evil deeds, returns to Earth bent on revenge. During the confrontation
between the evil Lothor and Sensei, the Sensei is magically turned into a
guinea pig and now cannot turn himself back into a human. Left with no
other choice, the Sensei must enlist the help of his less than perfect
students. Sensei gives 'morphers' to the three kids that, when necessary,
will transform them into superheroes.
But soon, this trio, now known as the Wind Power Rangers, faces a new
threat: two former Ninja students from a rival school join forces with
Lothor. The pair, known as the Thunder Rangers (Crimson Thunder and Navy
Thunder), must somehow be convinced by the Wind Power Rangers to team with
them and together -- as Power Rangers -- defeat Lothor. Later in the story,
another powerful ally -- the Green Samurai Ranger -- emerges to help the
Power Rangers in the ultimate battle of good versus evil. Until then, the
Power Rangers must work with Sensei/guinea pig to ensure the safety of the
Earth and keep their identities secret, all while keeping up with their own
fast-paced, fun-filled young lives.
Starring are Pua Magasiva as Shane, the Red Power Ranger; Glenn McMillan as
Dustin, the Yellow Power Ranger; Sally Martin as Tori, the Blue Power
Ranger; Adam Tuominen as Hunter, the Crimson Power Ranger; Jorgito Vargas as
Blake the Navy Power Ranger; and Jason Chan as Cam; Katrina Devine as Marah;
Katrina Browne as Kapri; and Grant McFarland as Sensei.
"Power Rangers: Ninja Storm" is produced in studio and on location. It is
from Village Roadshow KP Productions, Ltd.

Hi. Get lost. Good job. - Jindrax
I'm not sure if I like the "Wind" aspect. "Thunder," however is cool. And
the Green Samurai Ranger? Very cool.
Pua Magasiva was in the 2001 film THE OTHER SIDE OF HEAVEN; Jorgito Vargas
(a.k.a. Jorge Vargas; that is, if it's the same guy) has been in quite a bit
according to IMDb, including an episode of DARK ANGEL and NBC's SK8, Doug Sloan
and Ann Austen's last show; and you may all remember Katrina Browne for her
role as Cyane in 1998's YOUNG HERCULES.
Nice.
Forget the preview. We've got enough info on PRNS to last us 'til the premiere.
Thanks for the press release, Jen!
Looks to me like first-run episodes on ABC Kids will continue on in 2003.
Since there aren't any specific dates though, repeats on ABC Family could be
either next-day, on the following Friday, or the following Saturday.

Disney hasn't completely lost their minds after all. It definitely looks to be
our first ever Tzachor-less PR incarnation. Wasn't that the primary reason for
the no kissing scenes from PRiS onwards? Koichi actually appears to be higher
up in the production level in this new structure. Doug Sloan and Ann Austen
(a.k.a. Ann Knapp) are back. Last year, when we found out Lynn and Marchand
were leaving, I initially thought it would be Sloan would replace them. Turns
out I was off by one incarnation.

Now Bandai can once again put that famous PR story tagline on the toy boxes-
you know, like the ones from MMPR and PRZ. :-)

Aside from calling the central 3 "Wind Power Rangers," I generally like the
names for the next set of Rangers. The Green Samurai Ranger- good way to
distinguish him from the other famous sixth Green Ranger.

4 males, 1 female. Only the 2nd time in PR history that's happened (Alien
Rangers was the first). And only the second time yellow's a male for PR as
well.

The series will definitely change next year, that's for sure. A whole bunch of
new names to get used to on the end credits roll. I'm personally expecting
major changes in the music department, to produce songs similar to those used
in MMPR and PRZ for the battles.

Nice to see some returning crew. We don't have to worry so much that this
series might be drastically different from what we're used to.
Told from the power teens point of view...
Maybe I'm reading too far into this line... This doesn't mean they're going
to "narrate" their teen-angst filled lives, are they?
To the outside world, Tori, Shane and Dustin have typical teen lives in Blue
Bay Harbor: fun, friends, school and hanging out at Storm Chargers Action
Sports store.
Blue Bay Harbor? It's okay... and the sports store? I hope it's not the same
boring locale as the comic book store in Beetleborgs.
Shane's a skateboarder, Dustin races motocross, and Tori's a beach-loving
surfer.
Please don't be like Rocket Power. Please don't be like Rocket Power...
During the confrontation between the evil Lothor and Sensei, the Sensei is
magically turned into a guinea pig and now cannot turn himself back into a
human.
In yo' face suckas! :) I'm actually glad they kept this idea. The hamster is
really cute and funny in Hurricanger.

Power Rangers in the ultimate battle of good versus evil.
I like the fact they kept the "Wind & Thunder" theme from Hurricanger, but I
kinda wish they would just call them Hurricane Rangers. "Wind" doesn't have
enough "oomph" to me. I very much like the Thunder Rangers name. It's better
than "Shadow Rangers", and we've already had two sets of (evil) Rangers with
the name. It will be nice to find out what they call their zords though...
Thunderzords? :)
Bleh... "Green Samurai Ranger". I was so hoping for "Shuriken Ranger". I
guess I can hope they pull a "digit/circuit" situation later on.
Starring are Pua Magasiva as Shane, the Red Power Ranger; Glenn McMillan as
Dustin, the Yellow Power Ranger; Sally Martin as Tori, the Blue Power
Ranger; Adam Tuominen as Hunter, the Crimson Power Ranger; Jorgito Vargas as
Blake the Navy Power Ranger; and Jason Chan as Cam; Katrina Devine as Marah;
Katrina Browne as Kapri; and Grant McFarland as Sensei.
Surprising. One girl? I was hoping Crimson could be the first female "Red
Ranger". I wonder who Cam, Marah, and Kapri are the counterparts of. Marah
and Kapri I can assume are the equvalent of Windenu and Furabijo. What about
Cam? Is he the Oboro replacement, or just the shop owner?
All in all... Very exciting.
I hope. I miss the "rock" sound of the earlier seasons.
Both wind and thunder are terms used to describe sects of the samarai
class in Japanese medieval times.

Ah. Lothor. Major badass name.

A rodent sensei, and ninjas. How Ninja Turtle-esque.

Thunder Rangers. Shadow Rangers. I don't know which one sounds more
badass, but I'm digging Thunder Rangers though.

Sounds like he'll be Polynesian or something. If so, then it's good
that we're having another minority ranger leader. We hadn't had one
since T.J.

Can't wait. Anyway, the only thing that I'm kind of bumming about is
how there's only one female ranger this time.
Just had another thought. You think their Megazords will be Wind
Megazord, and another Thunder Megazord? Maybe they'll just ditch the
"Megazord" bit in the giant robots' names altogether? I'd think Ninja
Wind Megazord sounds cool, but then maybe the other one would be Ninja
Thunder Megazord, but they probably wouldn't go with that either.
No it doesn't. The way the Japanese have it worked out is the wind
tames the water, the water tames the land, the land tames the fire,
and the fire tames the wind.
I con'g likd Jorgito Vargas at all. He's a Canadian actor, and he's native.
I think he's the first native blood to be on Power Rangers. I guess time
will only tell how well he turns out to be a ranger.....
I hit send before I checked it over by accident.

Sort of a 4-entry version of Rock/Paper/Scissors (except that there is
equality/stand-off between Wind and Land/Water and Fire - [although in
theory Water SHOULD tame Fire])
Look at nature:
The Fire can cause condensation/rain in the atmosphere (water)
The wind blows the water
The water shapes the land through erosion
The land allows the fire to burn
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Dammit to the bowels of bloody hell!
That is all :)

I take comfort in that. If Koichi has the helm for at least half the
episodes, we should be OK.
Does anyone know who's doing the writing and/or story editing?

Since we don't see a cast credit for Lothor, I'm wondering if we're
headed for out first all-voice-cast villain group since the Machine

Haha, you knew what I meant, but yah that's funny.
This is one villianess I *know* I'll like. ;)
Yum, I second that motion. Delicious!

Its November, about the same time a synopsis of the season is released
every year.
Yes, very tasty! What we need now is a battle of the villanesses where this
Katrina person fights Astronema and they end up tearing each other's clothes
off. =)
A fence, a fence! Look Jen, a picket fence! =)

Sheesh. :-) British spelling, Jon! British spelling ...
defence/offence instead of defense/offense. Just like colour/color ...

Trying to spoil my funs with puns are you? I sentence you to look for the
thread that has fled, a Variety article of interest particul(ar), that has
the proof for Pazuzu, that he missed while 'a snoozed/losed.
Here's another picture of Katrina Devine:

Ooh, she can rule my world any day...
You can't get much more reliable than a press release from ABC Family.

Er ... huh?
Dude, you are sending my mind in circles
Google! I can't wait, either.
I just hope the "all six Rangers volunteer for every single
charity/event/pledge ever done in their city and get perfect grades" theme
doesn't return.
It's great isn't it! =)
I shall be dreaming well tonight :)
Last nights 'Buffy' sent *my* mind in circles. ;)
Best non-finale episode EVER, IMO.
Dawn should really visit The Bronze more often.
And Buffy ...
Sure, it turned out to be a spell, but hot damn ... ;)
And Spike/Xander working together! Yay!

Talking tree? GAG...bad enough Pocahontas had that.
Eileen (Psycho Tangerine) (and yes, I broke my own rule and read the PRNS
spoiler. Seems interesting).

Maybe they really are hoping for that Hamtaro crossover ;-)
and the Dr Dolittle crossover with Rodney.
