My family has known through it's records dating back to the Revolutionary
War that we are the descendants of Nobility. However I have done some
internet research and it turns out that not only may this be confirmed, but
that we may be descended from Royalty as well. I'm not mentioning my family
name of course, I value my privacy, but to discover that my family has
royal roots is certainly very cool.

At the very least it's similar with my family, but there is a
possibility....my family name is derived from the estate they once ruled as
their fief, and this very fief was ruled at one point was held by a man who
became King of Scotland. The family members along that line who travelled
to the colonies (a few centuries later) DID come from Scotland, although
the Manor was itself was in England. So it's possible they were relatives.
We still appairently have some very distant family in England and Scotland,
some even living near the old manor, but the title itself seems to have
fallen out of the family about the time America was colonised. And infact
the title itself doesn't seem to be held by anyone anymore, pity.
I do hear though that old, manorial titles that have been abandoned for
centuries can be registered and claimed (although you can't claim peerage)
though, for enough money, under British law. Soon as I get some SERIOUS
cash I'm gonna see if I can get the family title back :)

Well, part of my mom's line goes back to Thomas More of Henry VII fame.
Another relative saved Abraham Lincoln from drowning, and another fought
alongside Daniel Boone. Plus they were pretty embroiled in the Civil War.
On my dad's side... well, I haven't traced the Scandinavian line yet.

I can trace part of my father's line back to the American Revolution. The
rest were out of Ireland and Scotland, settled in South Dakota. One of them
married a Native American (We're not sure which tribe, but we've strong
evidence pointing to one of them), and she had my great-great-grandfather,
and thus producing my great-grandfather (He fought in WW1), who then had
Edward Ford.
My paternal grandmother's family came from the Middle East (They stayed a
while in Germany), my great-great-grandmother married a German and they
moved to America, had my grandmother, who then married Edward Ford of South
Dakota....only to have him shipped off to war. They had seven children with
my father
being the oldest living boy. He grew up, volunteered to go to Vietnam and
then came back and married a couple of women (not at the same time). Met my
mother in 1980 and married her.
My maternal great-great-grandparents are listed as pioneers in the records
down in Austin, TX. They helped to found West, Texas (my
great-great-grandfather built the first church there) after leaving
Czechoslovakia before the turn of the century. They came straight to Texas
and had 13 children. Their oldest was a girl named Mary. Mary had an affair
with a married Spanish immigrant and produced my grandmother Dolores Marie.
My grandmother met my grandfather one
day while serving in a diner. His brother had just wrecked his convertible
and was quite upset.
My maternal grandfather's family is Welsh/Irish and German.The German part
of the family came to
America around 1800 after being thrown out. My great-grandfather fought in
WW2, designed some planes or something. Before he left for war he met Nell
Greene, had three sons, divorced her and married a very nice attractive
woman. The eldest of the three sons was my grandfather, Edward.
Dolores and Ed met, married and have five girls.
My family history in a nutshell. No royalty or nobility, just good ole'
fashioned peasant stock ;-)

On my father's side we're allegedly distant cousins of the Dalton Gang.
Looking into our ancestry also suggests that our ancestors were Normans
who participated in invading England. The only thing I'm quite sure of
is that our Irish side is from Waterford County, Ireland.

That's mainly my ex-stepfather. And I have a rather complex family line...
A couple of my distant family were also bank robbers, but that's another
story.

Well when you put it that way I come from a line that also includes a
President of the United States as well, and some bank robbers, ALOT of
soldiers (including Generals), advisors to Presidents, some Native
American (not sure what tribe), as well as some downright insane people
(more recently), etc...

Considering how inbred the royal families of Europe are, I wouldn't want to
know if I'm descended from them.
Besides, my great-great-(great?)-grandfather was found in a basket on the
families doorstep, so my family tree ends pretty quickly in that direction.

Some of you may know that my surname is Newton. That is Newton as in Sir
Isaac Newton. the family tree goes back quite a way before him too,
including quite a lot of nobles etc. I don't know what lies on my
fathers side though, but he is an Australian, so probably a bunch of
convicts.
