I don't know about the comet, but there certainly
was a total solar eclipse in 44 BC, albeit nearly
seven months after J. Caesar was slain; at syzygy
Wednesday October 11, 44 BC 22:44:09 UT. This was
known by calculation, not needing to be "visible"
to the naked eye but by way of strict calculation.
The ancients were adept astronomers & astrologers
who could predict such imminent moon-sun conjoins
with great accuracy, as with the other conjoins.
