I have a dynalink ext router (RTA020) at the moment.

However, I have problem setting it up to play Age of Empires over the ADSL
link. Apparently I will need the following ports to be opened ...

Initial TCP Connection 47624 Outbound 47624 Inbound
Subsequent TCP Inbound 2300-2400 2300-2400
Subsequent TCP Outbound 2300-2400 2300-2400
Subsequent UDP Inbound 2300-2400 2300-2400
Subsequent UDP Outbound 2300-2400 2300-2400

And the answer from Dynalink support is:

So which is the best external modem/router that can support Age of empires
and other applications such as yahoo messenger, ICQ...etc...?

I have the same Router which seems to work fine for Yahoo, MSN chat -
but I don't play online games. Do you require all the ports open or
just 1 in the range given ?

AT the moment, I can use yahoo and ICQ without any pinhole. However, I
think the game really needs the whole range to get it to work...
Any idea?

No, sorry. Don't know about playing online games. I was only
susgesting that you may like to confirm that you need the whole range
of ports open - if you don't then you can solve your problem.

If you have ONE computer that wants to connect to the internet, then the
alcatel speedtouch home, the speedtouch pro in pptp mode (makes it behave the
same as the home), or the Nokia M1122 in pptp mode, or the 3com homeconnect
dual link (if you can get one).

None of these devices will support more than one computer at a time (when in
the pptp mode for the speedtouch pro and the M1122). However you could slap a
linux based firewall between them and the rest of you computers and it would
do everything you want.

Otherwise, the Nokia M1122 is a good modem, if it doesn't loose it's firmware,
and if you can get one (Nokia have pulled out of New Zealand). Personally I
would seriously consider avoiding due to those too facts.

I can't say for sure what the other options are, perhaps the Asus can do it,
the Cisco should be able to bdut boy you will pay for it.

Ask on the adsl mailing list.
