'Futility or The Wreck of the Titan'
--Morgan Robertson (latter-day prophet)
Hardcover, Published by Buccaneer Books
Publication date: June 1991
Dimensions: 8.82" x 5.80" x .96"
ISBN: 0899668216 (amazon.com)

First edition published in 1898, fourteen years before
the actual Titanic disaster April 1912, the perils and
pitfalls described in this tragic novel parallel those
of the Titanic so prophetically, and uncannily, that M.
Robertson's prophetic insight is entirely self-evident:
by the maiden voyage of the Titan/Titanic, an enormous
transatlantic luxury liner which was deemed unsinkable
by its prideful builders, and despicably greedy owners,
touted as the "largest, most luxurious ship ever built".

She quickly sank into the icy waters upon intercepting
a massive iceberg resulting in many deaths, which were
attributed to a shortage of much-needed lifeboats, the
result of "cutting-corners" greed of the line's owners.

Here're some highlights of the compelling coincidences
between Robertson's novel to the actual Titan incident:

Ship's name: Titan - Titanic
Passengers & crew: 3,000 - 2,208
Available lifeboats: 24 - 20
Month ship was sunk: April - April
# of ship's voyages: 1 - 1
Ship's tonnage: 75,000 - 66,000
Ship's length: 800' - 882.5'
Engine prop's: 3 - 3
Cause of sinking: iceberg - iceberg
Knots at impact: 25 - 23
