Shock and Awe?

The media keeps using the phrase "shock and awe" to describe a massive bombing
of Iraq. 800+ cruise missiles etc. More explosive damage than was done in the entire
1991 war all in less than 48 hours. That's "shock and awe." What would they call it
if someone did it to an American city? Can you see the news anchors sitting there
saying, "Were shocked and awed by this attack."
How would the damage and the deaths from such an attack on Baghdad compare with
the attack of Sept. 11, 2001? "Shock and Awe" is a euphemism for "terror." Even the
threat of such an attack must be considered terrorism.

I must agree with this, and with William Penn's words "A good end cannot
sanctify evil means; nor must we ever do evil that good may come of it."
(If there's even a good end to be had from this.) War is legalized
terrorism, however much it's dressed up in righteous propaganda. It's
still destruction and the spreading of terror.

One of the folks at work was irate because he'd heard one person
after seeing the footage from the first 24 hours say- 'What a light
show!'
I totally agree with his outrage. I cannot imagine a more callous
and unfeeling statement- the total opposite of loving your neighbor
and doing unto others. When the WTT were hit, it was 2 planes into 2
buildings- and the whole world mourned. Now we see this - whether or
not it is designed to be 'surgical' strikes- and this joker sees it as
entertainment. It is a grievous and horrible thing. Those who cannot
see that- who cannot feel with their hearts and souls what it must be
like to be subjected to such a barrage- must be spiritually dead. lw

The reporters on the ground can. I recommend Robert Fisk's report from

Whatever else, the first day of spring, a date of special significance
to both Iraq and Iran as what to us would be the first day of the new
year, will be a date never again greeted with the same innocence in the
arab world.
This is not the way to defeat fear. Release fear today, and it will stalk
the world tomorrow. And in days to come we will understand that fear and
hatred can't be used as a weapon from which we ourselves are immune. What
are we to use to defend ourselves from hatreds wrath.. duct tape and guns.
