Those of you who are a little fed up with seeing and hearing Portillo's
favourite Tory-loving <ahem> 'singers' may enjoy trying to knock some
virtual sense into them with our 'Slap A Spice Girl' interactive
shockwave game.

Take a look at:
http://www.urban75.demon.co.uk/spice.html

You'll need a shockwave-enabled browser (the file's around 170k in
size).

Enjoy! :)

No. No no no no NO! I have to disagree this time with you Mike, why
would you want to give a slap to one of those lovelies. Okay, they have
`dodgy' political tendancies, but they are a larf Geri is a bit of a

I'm sure most blokes wouldn't mind giving the spice girls "a good pounding" ;-P

Hasn't this joke been done now?

I mean the slap-a-politician thing was funny ( although the idea had
been done before at an American web site

http://slugfest.kaizen.net/

But at the same time it was as depressing as hell - if you needed a
symbol of 90s disempowerment, the image of a raver sitting in front of
a screen *pretending to slap Michael Portillo with his mouse button*
is as rich as it gets.

As for slapping the Spice Girls... knocking some sense into a woman?
Is this dodgy or what?

Methinks you are reading too much into web page that's just a little bit
of mild amusement.

Now bullshitter bashing that's different. It's war, war I tell you. Give
me the mallet I'll show 'em!

> As for slapping the Spice Girls... knocking some sense into a woman?
> Is this dodgy or what?

Er, no. It's not actually the women you're hitting, it's the image of
Tory stupidity, capitalism and shallowness represented in a neatly
packaged product, The Spice Girls, in bitmap format.

All we need now is for Mel C to admit to how many pills they pop of a
weekend and surely we'll have a new government. Now that would be poetic
justice - Government proposes new laws on the misuse of drugs, Prime
Minister calls general election, Spice Girls announce support for Tory
party, Spice Girl admits to popping 12 tabs a night, Tory party
humiliated, Tories loose election. Well sort of poetic justice.

Gary.

Apparently not. I received a lot of requests for them to be 'virtually'
slapped and so obliged.

I'm sure it has. But who cares? It's just a little game. Big deal. The
immense popularity of this section proves that many people have enjoyed
it for what it is - a simple little diversion that brings a smile to the
face.

Fine, but if you'd bothered to read the rest of the site you would
realise that it is anything *but* a 'symbol of disempowerment'.

The site reflects and celebrates the massive energy and commitment by
campaigners and activists throughout the UK. It features reports from
Newbury, A30, Reclaim the Streets, Football fans against the CJA,
squatted arts centres, news from a host of direct actions as well as a
huge drugs information resource with an interactive forum and first aid
advice and help.

It has reported on the upcoming Police Bill and Barry Legg's Bill, and
judging by the feedback, has proved useful to a lot of people who want
to find out more about politics and raves.

It also has a massive database of campaign groups and activists
throughout the UK, all of whom are anything but 'disempowered' - they're
getting off their arses and *doing* something.

So no, I don't find it 'depressing' in the least - in fact, I find it
fucking exhilarating and inspirational.

It's called a joke. Having a laugh. A bit of fun. No-one gets hurt and
it's as 'dodgy' as a Tom and Jerry cartoon.

And it's a nice break from the depressing political shite going down
elsewhere....

Well at least 90% of the population haven't heard it yet or they
wouldn't still be No.1 (apparently).

> As for slapping the Spice Girls... knocking some sense into a woman?

Don't you dare call them women.....
They're blow-up, plastic bindy girls with real lifelike hair.
I'd give em a right slap for bringing the female sex into disrepute.
They do about as much as Margaret Thatcher did for womens lib.

Mind you I did think it was hysterical how close a similarity there
was between the "real thing" spice girls & the Dawn French et al
Sugar Lumps on TV the other night [sitting cabbaged in front of
Comic Relief after a night next door at Doug's, gibber ;)]
Amazing considering they're supposed to be such sex symbols, and
there was Waynetta Slob herself (nice one Dale), along with Lulu,
Dawny, Jennifer Saunders & someone else? looking *just like them*.
Brilliant!

I'll be writing 'NO THANKS' across my ballot paper which I find at
least a little bit empowering....(thanks to Susan H for the idea.)

And in the light of Labour's unquestioning support for the Leg Bill, I
just had to go and give Tony Blair a good slap!

Any chance of a 'brit-pop' one next. (staring oasis etc)
Perhaps you could perhaps change the slap to a full on punch??
:-)
