Where else would this happen? Oklahoma, of course!

Hence my comments about you and the goat.

I, however, refuse to go along with the status quo.

The president of the French anti-racist movement MRAP, Mouloud Aounit,
called the ruling "a terrible defeat for secularism, intelligence and
dialogue".

Wow, what an amazing analysis of First Amendment issues! What insight into
the complexities of religious freedom! What scholarly rigor in regard to
the SCOTUS precedents!

Oh screw you and all your pissing about first Amendment issues and religious
freedom. This girl just got a wild idea from her dad and thought she needed to
convert her religion. It's just causing a lot of problems for all the students
wanting to just go to school and learn something.

Yeah, that pesky damned US Constitution, it's just a excuse for pissing and
moaning. What we ought to do is put the US under control of Ivan, the Great
Philosopher King.

What should we mr. save everyone? do give in and let every little fruitcake have
a field day screwing with their school system? Seems are El prezz the fighting
bushy(tm) and his gang have had a good time changing our Constitution. Some how
I don't really see the "scarf" thing as important. All her parents want is a pay
off they could care less about that damn scarf.

If school is not church how come all the hullaballoo about wanting
to keep forced prayer in school or about having to pray in school
back in the 80's and earlier?
She merely sees it as thus: If by code she is required to observe
'moments of silence' or whatever the hell they are calling it these
days then why can she not amend by one rule of her religion.
What I loved was the quote from some school bigshot- "If we break
one dress code we will have to break them all. There are alot of devil
worshippers in this state. Will that be next?" Simple
solution-RESEARCH. The Muslim faith is recognized by our goverment.
Devil Worship is not. Put THAT clause in there, that is must b a
recognized faith. Few religions actually demand a certain type of
clothing 24/7 so the next person that clamours over issue of religion
and rights research their religion. Of course Okies hate Wicca even
though it is recognized and protected but we have no 24/7 dress code
or hair style, etc so they would not have to worry about us clamouring
about anything other than our symbol the pentacle.

YES!! My thoughts exactly! If no other recognized religion is allowed
thier symbolism then do away with crosses and bibles and the word god
on everything. If none of us are allowed freedom then in the words of
that school official "Everything neeeds to stay uniform. If we let one
religion we will have to allow others." Too bad that stament is so
double sided most times.

Personally I just waiting for the shit-storm when they tell the
fundies that their kids can no longer wear their 'WWJD' bracelets to
school. Or that they can no longer hold religious services around the
school flag pole or during half-time at the high school football game.

Oops, I forgot.

Those are all Christian practices and therefore sanctioned and
encouraged by the school boards of Oklahoma.

Never mind.

They probably ought to sic Attorney General Ashcroft onto the Muslim
kid and be done with it, as she probably a 'terrorist in training'
anyhow. ;-)

Yarmulkes are not longer allowed to be worn by Orthodox Jews in the
school environment. Nor are they permitted in public view at any
time. Hasidic Jews must remove all headcoverings at all times and cut
their locks, as it may disguise their actual appearance. How does
that sound?

No, for Ivan - Stars of David and Yarmulkes. I come from a Jewish
background myself, and it sickens me to no end that a self-professed
follower of Judaism is so full of hate, given what the Jews have been
through. But, oh well - hypocrites are as hypocrites are - and I'm
sure Rabbi Sherman is just dancing the Horah over the possibility of
Ivan's mentality poisoning the local community...

Just to correct any impression that Ivan is an isolated nut job, I found
this gem on the Tulsa World web site.

You see, that just the way that people are in Tulsa.

BTW, English isn't the most commonly spoken language in the world; Chinese
is.

And the Chinese are hot to learn English.

Wo hui jia.

Fred

<----- CLIPPED FROM THE TULSA WORLD --------------->
Language is not a constitutional issue
(Response to "Quit hating Spanish," below) First of all, Antonio, you
reference to the Constitution has nothing to do with what language we speak.
It has to do with being able to speak and write and pray about what you
want. Not in whatever language you want.
As for being hispanic, chicano, mexican, spanish...etc...I am proud that you
embrace your culture and your beliefs. I commend you for that. But we do
speak english in this country. If you come to American, where English is the
"unofficial" language of this country and by God you should learn it and
speak it. I also noticed that you made note of spanish being the prominent
language. If you did some more studying you'd realized that English is the
most prominent spoken language in the world. You say that you shouldn't
conform to our way of life because you embrace your Mexican way, why the
heck did you leave Mexico? Cause you were poor and you wanted a better life
for you and your family? Well then you need to embrace our way of life or
you yourself should LEAVE!!
The fact is the majority of the mexicans in the country are here as aliens.
Illegal at that. They are here cause they want to make a life for
themselves. They also take the blue collar jobs because without a green card
or citizenship you can not get a CEO or executive postions. So the white man
will hire them for $2 an hour and no benefits because they can. If you want
to be respected you must earn that respect. We don't owe you or your culture
a damn thing. You have your own country and we didn't bring you over here on
ships and persecute you for hundreds of years.
My background is Italian and believe me, my great grandfather had it a hell
of a lot harder than you guys do. They were forced to speak English and were
paid worse and forced to live in poverty while here. But now Italian
americans are established in this country because they earned the respect of
Americans. The mexicans must do the same. It's simple. Learn english or get
out.
