MY GRACEFUL LADY
My graceful lady Uhura:
who reminds me of
soft balmy rains,
wide open plains
under great African skies;
who reminds me
that I can feel,
that I need not fear to
open my heart's doors,
that my heart is
held in cherished hands -
only you can make me see
the beauty of
rushing water in golden brooks;
only you can make me hear
the gods speaking when I see
the northern lights;
only you can make me feel
how my soul is moved
when I lay my hand on your cheek.
