David Wilkerson is going to Europe to encourage disheartened
pastors. The pastor of Times Square Church (see link #2 below) in
New York City will conduct meetings for pastors in France,
Croatia, Romania, and Poland in May. Pastors from 32 nations,
including Balkan nations, are expected to attend. "We are praying
that a busload of 50 pastors from Albania will be able to cross
the border," he said.
...Many of the pastors are "need a time of spiritual renewal,"
Wilkerson said. "Others are being tested beyond human strength."
Pastors at the meetings will represent different sides in the
Balkans war, but will be "all one in Christ, all loving one
another, all praying for God to end the strife and open all areas
to the gospel."
SamaritanĂs Purse will set up a relief camp in Albania for 10,000
refugees. The Boone, N.C.-based relief and development ministry
will build and operate the camp, Knight-Ridder news service said.
Founder Franklin Graham (see link #3 below) has traveled in the
region in the past few weeks, and the United Nations asked him to
open the camp to help with short-term aid and medical assistance.
...More than half of the 600,000 refugees who have fled from
Kosovo are in Albania. Neither the United Nations or relief
organizations "were ready for this huge migration of people,"
Graham said. "There are just not enough aid agencies and relief
workers to meet the need." About 25 relief agencies are at work
in the region, about 10% of what is required, he said.

Who says that we do not try to go out and get people. My parish has a very active
evangelism program. We bring in speakers and advertise in the news paper.

I don't think that it is the "exception". I look at our little mission
parish here in the Princeton area of New Jersey. We are renting an old
church building and the first thing we did was to "advertise", we put up an
Orthodox Cross outside of the Church. I can't tell you how many people have
started to come to our mission just by that alone. We started a year ago
and had three Chrismations this year. We have more than that as catechumens
already since Pascha. At Pascha we probably had almost as many non-Orthodox
with us than we had Orthodox folks, part of our mission program. We have
had our folks go to a number of areas to talk about Orthodoxy and about our
little mission.
We have yet to do a mailing of any sort. Our Bible study class is filled to
capacity.
I know of the activities of a half dozen other missions in the New Jersey
area and all are interested in going out and spreading the message of Christ
and His Church.
I will agree with you that there are a number of "established" parishes who
seem to wait until someone comes to the door rather than go out and do the
mission work that all parishes should do.

This is one of dozens of so-called "Orthodox" churches duping people around
the country. The Celtic church you inquire about is listed on my web page
entitled "Other Churches Using 'Orthodox' in Their Names". This church is
noncanonical, is not connected in any way shape or form with "mainstream"
Orthodoxy, and in fact denounces the Ecumenical Patriarch on its web site (I
have a link on my web site. See http://www.spectra.net/~aggreen/other.html).
Al Green
You need to check out some of the groups there which
clearly do not belong, such as presbyterian and
espiscopalian groups. Having them there makes you
look like you have not done a good job, because
clearly no presbyterian or episcopalian group could
care less about Pat. Bart or scoobie-doobie-SCOBA.
Also, a few of the orthododox groups you list are in
fact valid autocephalous groups, such as the
oriental orthodox group and THEOCACNA, so don't give
your Syrian Jacobite brethren or valid Ofieih
offspring a bad rap (at least their bishops have
beards and don't marry -- two acid tests for most
tradition fiends in the GOA).
Have a nice dull life as an orthodox.
> your Syrian Jacobite brethren or valid Ofieih
The status of the Syrians has not been determined.
> offspring a bad rap (at least their bishops have
The Ofieshites are not in communion with Orthodoxy, thus they are not Orthodox.

To women contemplating marriage: The question you should ask is not
"How much do I love him?" The real question is "How much can I
tolerate him?"
