Notes on the Games of the Tournament

The second game of the tournament had to be replayed since one of the packs from the Fullerton team did not download. Original score:  DENVER B  5,569  Fullerton  4,849  Calgary A 3,165.

In Denver's first game, they had rankings 1-5, 7, and 9-11, with 581 as the lowest score on their team.

In Mesa's first game, they had rankings 1-3, 5-8, 11 and 18, with 585 and 419 as the lowest scores on their team.

In Phoenix's first game, they set the record for 15 minute tournament games in Laser Quest history with 8,600.  Hocus Pocus scores 1,476, highest individual score in a 15-minute tournament game in Laser Quest history.  (Except maybe for the Houston tournament and BITW, but I doubt those had anything higher.  Nobody at the West knew of higher scores.)

In the 8th game of the tournament, Regina only scores 1,824, perhaps the lowest team score without a penalty, in LQ tournament history.

In the 9th game, Phoenix outscores Denver by 2,293!

In the 11th game, Denver beats Mesa by only 53 points, the closest decision of the tournament.

The closest game of the tournament between all three teams was 1,010-between Calgary A, Salt Lake City and Denver B.  Competition was not quite as tight as the South, but there were some amazing performances in the West.

Division I playoff: Salt Lake upsets Calgary by a mere 90 points in the fight to go to Knoxville.

Division II playoff:  Fresno keeps it close with Denver in their first tournament appearance.  They take 2nd and go on to win the consolation match by a large margin and take 4th.

Be sure to see my other post about Phoenix to check out this team's amazing performance up close.

Congratulations to the qualifiers of the Western Region.  I had a blast at the tournament.  Kinda nice when I can focus on partying and not worry about qualifiying.  To all the teams that didn't make it, keep trying!  It was the first tournament for many of you, and there were some really great teams there.  I'm impressed with Fresno's performance at their first tournament.  Great job guys, can't wait to meet you in the maze.  To Mountain View:  You couldn't have had a much harder schedule, and you did great considering whom you played.  Keep at it, you have a good team.
Thanks to Tim (Ddy >Angel<) from Mesa for the Mesa shirt.. I'll have lots to trade in Knoxville for you, as well as Denver, Phoenix and Calgary if a few of them come hang out!

See everyone at the big, hard, and certain to be amazing T.I.T.

Thanks for the props Frozen Shade!  I'm glad you pointed out (both below and in the score breakdown) what was painfully obvious to everyone at the Regionals, we had a BITCH of a schedule considering this was our first tournament.  We rose to the challenge, however, and I think surprised a lot of people.  And not a single one of the members of team Mountain View went home upset.  We ALL had an absolute blast both in the arena and out.  Personally, I had a pretty bad tournament (Hear that guys? I'm freaking NOT gonna be the anchor man/utility player any more!).  Chalk it up to nerves,  but I still had fun.

And I will go to my grave saying that we would have beaten Denver A in the Phoenix/Denver A/Mountain View game if Xevious' pack hadn't died!
