I have just read both letters. To begin with, I have to admit I'm
prejudiced
somewhat, because I know and I have worked with Steve Jackson, and I know
him
to be a very serious professional. I have only done a little bit of
freelance
work for White Wolf, and I don't know Steve Wieck personally. So I can
only
weigh his words against SJ's. I am a fan of White Wolf's products, and I
own
most of their supplements for the WoD series. I thought that the licensing
deal was one of the greatest events in gaming history. Boy, did this dream
turn into a nightmare.

I'm sorry, but Wieck's letter was an excercise in tap-dancing. He didn't
explain any of the accusations Jackson made, except for the liar stuff,
which
is the kind of ploy people use to duck the issues.

I've playtested all of the GURPS adaptations of the game. I was infuriated
(as anybody on the old Illuminati BBS may remember) when the GURPS Vampire
Companion's first draft was butchered because White Wolf didn't want a lot
of
material converted to GURPS. At that point, I got the feeling that
somebody
at White Wolf didn't want a complete and coherent adaptation of their
game.
These letters only serve to confirm it. Rather than try to work things
out,
Weick's answer is to do "everything possible and reasonable to end our
business relationship with Steve Jackson Games." Obviously, that's what
they
were after in the first place. It certainly seems that somebody at White
Wolf
decided they didn't like the deal, and they have been trying to sour it.
And
Steve's letter was a lot more honest and open than Wieck's reply. If he
has
nothing to hide, why not get involved in the battles of "who said that" or
air White Wolf's side of the story? White Wolf HAS to dignify this with an
answer, or they will be condemn themselves.
