I decided to watch game 5 with an eye toward impartiality and to
catalog the responses to hits, plays, and the like that Jack Buck gave.
Well what follows is my tally. Their is some interpretation but I have
tried to err on the side of Jack here, why I don't really know. I leave
the reader to judge from his/her (this is especially for sherri B-) )
memory of the game if my judgements are close to reality. All I ask is
that you all keep an ear cocked for futrure bias in game 6 and game 7 if
needed. Does anyone know if we can petition CBS to use the American
league crew for the Series. Kaat and company are head and shoulders
above TimBuckTwo even ignoring any possible bias.

Legend: :-) = Definate excitement, both in tone and words.
:-| = Some what excited, words but only limited tone and inflection
:-( = Just going through the motions, no excitement. Robot like.

Note: These are all Buck quotes unless noted. Mccarver is Fair
although I still think he should never say a long "i" again, especially
NIIIIIINE!!!

1ST INNING: Missed it
2ND INNING: Bobby's stretch double :-(
Beuchell's K :-)
BRAves .5 : Hunter's single :-)
"Lets see if WE can get that runner started some how!"
Olson's single :-)
"HAve LEE smith on the ropes.." also called Barry, Bobby Bonds,
twice in the last few games.
Beliard K's :-)
Squeeze dies :-)!
3RD INNING: "That's a hit for the Pirates!" :-)

Braves: .5 "He hit that one a ton!!" :-) even though it was shorter
than Bond's was to the same spot last half inning. HMMMM!

4TH INNING: Bell "There's a Hit" :-( Great call Buck
Double play "Gottem Both!" :-)
Ironic Hunter tries to get interfered with last inning but
is called for it himself. HMMMM!
Andy's great catch (No trap!) :-( but he missed the DP :-(
says Buck
Braves: Lemke Sounds like a sickness "And that's a hit!" :-)

5TH INNING: "And a hit" :-(
"and there's a hit in the gap" :-( Scored run 1-0 Bucs
McCarver "Beuchell didn't earn it" Cause he walked. Yea right!
"Its a one run inning for Pitts." :-( sorry that's ALL we could get
Braves .5 "Lonnie Smith "There's a hit" :-| he likes that "there's a hit"
"Wonderful play by Zane Smith!" :-) Wow thanks buck!

6TH INNING: "Well hit by Van Slyke" :-|
"Pitts have left 5" He mention this in G3 a Zillion times,
but
forgot to mention here that Braves have left 6 at this point.
"Still only leading by one" :-) Only by one! Sorry buck we suck!
They counted the fucking # of Chops! Puh-lease!!!! Ram the chop!!!

7TH INNING: Show Ted Turner sleeping. Oh yea this guys a REAL BB Fan
Just like
Hanoi Jane is! Wake up TED!!!

8TH INNNING: Bell's Double :-|

Braves .5 Pendelton's triple :-| getty bored Buck?

9TH INNING: "Gottem!" :-) on Lind's out.

Braves .5: Greggs Hit :-)!!! "Pretty interesting!" What Buck, what?!!
Olson's hit "Basehit!!! Wooop!!" :-) :-) Oh yah he's impartial

Conclusion: Well it seems to me either Buck is caught up in the
excitement of Atlanta being on the verge of Finally winning SOMETHING
that matters or he hates the pirate's or he is just an old, Althizmer's
(sp), shrivled up raisin of a fart, crooked mouth talking, forgetful
BOOB! I vote for the latter. And yes I lost my impartiallity somewhere
after the "WOOP!". Soooooorry !!!
Give your impartial opinions of this will ya.

GO BUCS!!

I guess you didn't see Game 2 where he mentioned that the Braves had left
about 8 or so (don't have the statistics) while not mentioning the large number
of Pirates left on base.

Granted, I thought Buck and McCarver were VERY slanted towards the Pirates in
games 1 and 2, but they have toned down quite a bit. I guess since the Braves
have made it go to the decisive 7th game tonight.

Then again, it's probably all in perspective. Most people I've talked to
have felt that Buck was slighted towards Pittsburgh at first, but that
there is a MUCH MORE NEUTRAL tone in the later games. And not all of them
are Braves fans like myself!!!!

I haven't enjoyed CBS's version of Baseball NEAR AS MUCH as NBC/ABC either, but
I really think that this partiality stuff is all in the eye of the beholder.

On the thread of the announcing thing, was I dreaming or did McCarver
actually say something like this when the Pirates were batting in the
8th?

(All quotes are paraphrased from memory)

Buck : Yeah, and the outfield will be playing the batter away, since
it's unlikely that (Lind?) he could get around and yank that
fastball.

Tim : I'll say! Boy, if you try to YANK that 95 mph fastball.... well,
you're just a YANKER.

Now, I don't mean to offend anyone on the net, but my locker-room
understanding of calling someone a YANKER was... well, you know.
