Well, CBS finally put baseball on television and so I have a few comments. For
a while, I had guessed that CBS had bought the tv rights simply to keep NBC
from showing it.
I'd have to give them a B- on camera work. On two separate occasions
they showed other scenes while fielders caught fly balls.
The play by play was neither outstanding nor horrible. Near the end
when Bruno dove after a ball and missed it, Jim Palmer has an odd comment. He
felt that when a team has a four run lead, it is better for the players to
take gambles. They should play conservatively when they only have a one run
lead. Somehow I would think that allowing a triple to lead off an inning by
making a questionable dive at a ball would not be preferential to laying
back and letting the single drop in. On the other hand, I am not a manager.
They were really hyping their game of next week: St Louis at Chicago
by saying that if you haven't seen the Cards and Cubs at Wrigley you have
missed out. Come on, who are they kidding. This was probably the worst choice
of games to put on. Sure Jack Buck knows the Cards well and should do a good
job as the play-by-play man but who cares? Both teams need miracles to get back
into the hunt, let alone to get back to .500.

oh well, enough rambling,

S Conrad
