I am in the UK and cannot find anything that supports this protocol. I know that thatit
is new.

My question is 'is anyone taking it seriously?'

JVC failed to deliver their own editor based on it in dec1996 as promised
-- now scheduled Feb1997 -- we'll see!!

Are there any other companies planning to support it?

Is there a USA product from JVC and if so is it any good?

The advance literature that I saw in the UK seemed very Mickey Mouse

I don't know any more than you about JVC's plans I'm afraid.
However, I can't imagine that anyone other than JVC will take
the JLIP protocol seriously with the multi-vendor Firewire hanging
around.

I had previously been under the impression that the JLIP
connector could output only a single frame rather than a video
stream, but presumably if JVC are planning an editor then it does
provide a full digital video output. Is this right?

If you have any info at all about the editor, I'd be very interested
indeed to hear it!

Many thanks,

Max Christian.

I have details of the micky mouse editor that JVC say they are releasing but I shouldn't have
I could scan this and post a bmp file but am reluctant to clog up the forum with it
If any one wants please contact my email no direct

It is a like most other linear editors except less powerful

JLIP is a control protocol only -- it can control a printer to produce a print
if the printer is JLIP compatible.

!!! JVC TELL ME THAT THE ONLY OUTPUT FORESEEN FOR THE DV1 IS ANALOGUE SINGLE FRAME OR MOVIE !!!

What the hell they need 30 odd pins for on their connector is beyond me!!

In a nutshell, once again JVC has overengineered a product and
delivered completely useless features while ignoring what the market
really wants.

The JVC concept of proprietary control protocols has left them a has
been in the hi end prosumer editing market.

For now, understand this. JVC may have digital camcorders, but the
digital feature is totally useless. No digital in or out. None
possible. This is by design.

What is even worse they confused the truth with all this transfer to
a computer stuff making sound more like their name for Firewire
and not some useless feature that adds next to nothing to the camcorder.
Without digital out a DVC camcorder is hardly any better than a good
Hi8 one and at least on my Hi8 camcorder I have S-connectors for input.
