I recently tried to copy over a VCD file (.dat extension) to the hard drive
and i get the following error:

-----
Cannot Copy MUSIC01: Invalid MS-DOS function
-----

This file is a video file. I can view it using Windows Media Player 7.1 on
my Windows 98 SE computer, but no on this one using Windows 2000
Professional. When I double-click the file it says:

-----
You are attempting to open a file of type '.DAT' (.DAT)

These files are used by the operating system and by various programs.
Editing or modifying them could damage your system.

If you still want to open the file, clock Open With, otherwise clock Cancel.
-----

I click Open With and try to open it with Windows Media Player and I get:

-----
Incorrent Function
-----

I also tried to look for the File Type under Folder Options but the .DAT
extension does not show. Does anyone know what it could be?

Have you try opening up Media player first, then open it from within
Media player?

Just in case the association is causing problems.
