Anybody have any oppinion on Epiphones Electra 10 tube amp that is being
advertised in recent guitar mags? I have not seen one as of yet in the
Cincinnati area. It uses a 6L6 and a 12AX7. Rectifier is aparently ss.
8" speaker. PATENTED closed backed cabinet. 10 watts power.

There is also a 30 watt model using 2 EL34 and 2 12AX7'S.

Maranata!

I am not familair with this amp, but i would surmise that it was made to
compete with the Fender Pro or Blues Junior - tube amp under $300.

That is the Electar which has a 5 year warranty (not sure how much of that is
applicable to the tubes, though I would guess 90 days). The Electar was an
Epiphone amp that came out in the 40's, thought it is styled much differently
now.

I had an interest in that amp, but was put off by the 30 watts and the fact
that it is a complete korean import (if even the components are made in korea).

The fact is that you can get a new electar for about $300
(www.discountmusic.com, for one). At that price, it might be a buy. Sorry, but
I did not try out one although I had a chance to do so.

Keep in mind the 5 year warranty. Just make sure the store that sells it also
services it. You might end up paying about $375 if you buy local, but at least
you'll have support.

Good luck and happy hunting. Amps are fun to buy because there are so many good
ones to choose from in the $400 and under category.
