I am building an EXCEL application in VBA and I would like to have a custom
help file.

Using the VBA help, I found the following information:
"To create a custom Help file, use a product or tool that creates Windows
Help files."

Where do I find such a product or tool?

RoboHelp is one such product, but it's rather expensive.

Go here:

http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/

Then do a search for "help files." You'll find lots of freeware and
shareware products that may be of use.

If your help requirements aren't too extensive, you can create a help system
using Excel. There's an example at my web site:

http://www.j-walk.com/ss/excel/tips/tip51.htm

And, my "Excel 2000 Power Programming With VBA" has an entire chapter
devoted to help systems for Excel apps.

Melanie,
Microsoft provide an application called hhw.exe which you can download
from theit site. It comes with a compiler and a screen copy application
called Flash. I can't remember the url but if you search on hhw.exe
you'll find it. Be warned there is quite a lot of reading to do to get
you started composing the help files but it is well worth the effort.
