Linking to to stocks and bonds database

I am tracking a large portfolio of publicly traded stocks and bonds in an
Excel worksheet. I recall seeing a means of linking this information to a
Web site in order to retrieve the price per share, so that the portfolio
could be automatically updated. I need some instructions, or a primer, on
how to do this. How do I go about learning how to accomplish this task? A
sample worksheet would be really nice...
