Well, I'm going on vacation for a few weeks, so I won't be able to enjoy the
vigorous and stimulating discussion of comp.sys.amiga.programmer for a while.

Please, don't applaud just yet - I _will_ be back in due time...

Anyway, to keep you all amused and perhaps let you share just a little in my
joy of being away from it all, I have decided to use my last few hours in the
office to write a small game for the regulars (and indeed, the non-regulars
too!) of this fine newsgroup.

It is with fitting pride, therefore, that I will now introduce:

-= THE COMP.SYS.AMIGA.PROGRAMMER DRINKING GAME! =-

Rules are simple: read the newsgroup, and drink when instructed. I'll leave
the choice of beverage open, but I will not be held responsible for some of
the replies that are sure to follow when you choose a drink with high
alcoholic content!

And if you mess up your room, that is _your_ problem...

All clear? Let's look at the rules then!

Drink one sip when:

- Someone cannot get clipping to work with BOOPSI gadgets.
- Someone wants to know what the command for "WaitForKey()" (from Borland
TurboC) is on the Amiga.
- Michael van Elst posts a reply consisting of just "yes" or "no".
- Ralph Babel posts a reply consisting of just a reference to the Guru book.
- Someone asks for a good editor, and GoldEd is mentioned within the space of
3 hours.
- A bug in AFS is mentioned.
- And again if someone replies that AFS works fine for him.
- Gene Heskett posts and mentions his (admittedly impressive) age.
- Non-ANSI compliances in the Storm C compiler are mentioned (once for each
non-compliance described, but never more than a complete glass per posting)
- Ralph Schmidt refers to another message by message ID _ONLY_.
- Ralph Schmidt posts a message in which he says "the market demands it".
- Someone asks for a "good GUI toolkit".
- And again if it erupts into a MUI-related flamewar.
- A fight breaks out between AMOS and Blitz Basic users.
- And again if one of the C programmers decides to come down from Olympus to
settle things.
- Someone posts because he cannot get datatypes to work for him.
- And again if it is related to the v43 datatypes system.
- Timothy Rue posts a message longer than 512 lines.
- And again if he also invents a new word in that posting.
- Timothy Rue mentions the VIC.
- Someone is unable to install GCC or any other geek gadgets product.
- And again if the _only_ reply is a recommendation to Read The Fine Manual.
- And again if the location and filename of that manual is given!
- Someone calls something "a vital design flaw of AmigaOS".
- And again when the only discernible reason is "because this way it isn't
like UNIX".
- Someone posts some quick example source and is shot down for not including
error checking.
- Someone posts some quick example source and is shot down because his
definition of Main() isn't "int main (int argc, char *argv []);"
- And again if someone mentions that this allows the compiler to do
something wildly anomalous and highly improbable.

Drink twice when:

- Amiga Incorporated promises to release developer information (for either
classic or newfangled Amiga), but yet again fails to deliver.
- Someone recommends the K&R C book to a newbie.
- Someone recommends GCC to a newbie.
- Someone asks for a good editor, but noone mentions GoldEd.
- Someone announces he will start work on a new newsreader or mailer soon.
- Any commercial Amiga developer goes under (magazines also count).
- Dough, James, or Steve posts, but the posting is not related to SAS/C.

Drink a whole glass when:

- Amiga Incorporated releases developer information.
- Steffen Haeuser posts WITHOUT mentioning either WarpOS or RTGMaster.
- A new commercial product is announced, and actually sees the light of day.
- A new developer support program is announced by an Amiga-related company,
and actually does anything.
- Someone from (and speaking for) AI posts.
- And again if it is good (or at least useful) news!

Finally, you really ought to stop drinking when:

- Timothy Rue posts a message, and you think you understand it.

Disclaimer: this is not meant to offend anyone, and if you think it is grossly
unfair that you were mentioned the way you were (or weren't mentioned even
though you are a well-known poster!), feel free to address complaints to my
email address. I'll be back in ~two weeks, keep the faith!
