OK. I've had enough of hitting the mute button when watching Fox
Sunday football. I decided to start development on a new
interactive John Madden game, and you don't even need a computer.
It's called the _John_Madden_Drinking_Game_. Guys, get the wives
involved in this one. Anyone can play!

I've borrowed the idea from the MST3K drinking game (among others)
and the rules are simple:

RULES

1. Invite a bunch of people over for the next Summerall/Madden game
and give a copy of this outline to everbody or enlarge it & post
it next to your television.

2. Whenever Madden says or does something that falls within the
parameters of the following outline, a participant of the game
calls out a number and/or letter from the outline. The other
players judge the call by voting with raised glasses/bottles. A
majority vote requires everybody to drink. Dissenters will be
counseled over cocktails.

3. A drink is defined as a swig of beer, a sip of liqour, or the
transfer of wine from one player's mouth to another's. Bong hits
count, too. The number of drinks per play, if more than one, is in
parentheses.

OUTLINE

You must drink when Madden:

1. a. explains something exceedingly simple or obvious.
b. repeats an explanation of something exceedingly simple or
obvious.
c. telestrates with circles and arrows something exceedingly
simple or obvious.
d. otherwise beats a dead horse or drives any subject into the
ground.

2. a. jumbles/mumbles his words. (2 drinks if Sumerall tries to bail
him out)
b. can't finish a joke. (2 - see above)
b. drops a non-sequitur.
c. talks & talks & talks without making any point whatsoever.
d. generally makes no sense. (This one's dangerous)

3. a. calls the wrong player.
b. blows a call:
i. obviously
ii. determined through replay.
a. insists he's right (2)
b. apologizes, says he was wrong (3)

4. a. comments on a player's physical attributes other than in a
statistical manner. (e.g., firm buttocks, rippling thighs ;)
b. comments on a player's uniform.
c. comments on a coach's physical attributes or clothing.
d. comments about someone's radio headset (2)

5. a. telestrates more than one replay per play.
b. telestrates a play from earlier in the game.
c. telestrates anything other than a play (e.g., someone's headset).
(2)

===

As I see it, this game will be especially effective during a blowout
in the 4th quarter.

I started this list mostly to make John Madden bearable to me.
Please help out by adding your own ideas to this list and posting
them here for all to share.

I think you're mistaken. Irvin tied that record in the
Philadelphia game, which was Monday night on ABC. Madden and
Summerall were nowhere to be seen.

My opinions, which, by definition, are not Rush Limbaugh's.
What if there were no hypothetical situations?

You caught that too, eh? Isn't there someone in the booth who can tap
him on the shoulder and give him the 'Shhh' sign?

Yeah, really..

The only speck in the almost unadulterated pleasure I got watching the game
was Madden going into his usual 9er-boosting orgasms.. Even as a 9er fan,
I find it rather disturbing..
