However, there was one problem with "Supporter Album #1" - the initial
pressing had an error that caused a minor glitch in one of the tracks.
As soon as the band realized the problem they promised to replace the
defective copies, but just the CDs and not the original packaging.
This is going to happen soon. Since the defective copies remain with
the subscribers I predict that many of them will end up on Ebay as soon
as the replacement copies arrive.
So if you see a copy of this "Supporter Album #1" for sale anywhere
(Ebay or whatever) you should consider these questions: Is the copy
you're going to buy one of the defective disks or one of the (hopefully)
error-free replacements? And: Does this copy come in the original
packaging (hand-numbered cardboard envelope with a small poster)?
This post is meant to inform you before anyone pays inflated prices for
an inferior product, so feel free to distribute it freely and tell your
friends.
Thank you.

Hmmm, methinks your misjudging the obsessive collector mindset, wherein the
very limited faulty copies will be more valuable than the less limited
error-free replacements. I'd expect to see the faulty ones very clearly marked
as being faulty.

yeah, but on the other hand, ebay = retard magnet. almost everything
that's billed as 'limited' release ends up being grossly overpriced,
regardless of whether there is any rational justification or not.

Oh, I know the obsessive collector's mindset well enough, trust me.
It's just that in this case AFAIK the defective run is not rarer than
the replacement edition since every supporter got one defective disk and
will be getting exactly one replacement.
Personally, I'll keep my defective copy for a few years and hopefully
one day those obsessive Neubauten collectors will finance the university
education for my children.

How surprising.

Wasn't the point of this that EN wanted not to work with Mute anymore?

The odd thing about the supposed defecetive copy is that my copy isn't
defective. I've played it in dozens of players dozens of times and
have absolutely no issues whatsoever with my copy. Weird. It must
be because I spent time in Berlin this summer to ward off the bad luck.

Mine drops out quite a few times. The only other person I know to get
one got a perfect one. Just a matter of luck.

Well, the original idea was to record an album without help and
interference from any record label. Apparently the band has realized
that worldwide distribution of the finished album would be an
organizational nightmare and impossible for them to do. Therefore they
decided to split the material in two parts, one limited to the
subscribers only and one for public release through a conventional
record label.
AFAIK Neubauten did not have any problems with Mute records whatsoever.
Their recent trouble was with their primary German label. Mute was just
their international distributor anyway. In Germany they had signed a
contract with Rough Trade Germany which was subsequently bought out by
Zomba (home label of Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears AFAIK) who were
later bought out by the major company Bertelsmann. This led to many
changes in the label structure and therefore Neubauten's growing
dissatisfaction with the music industry.

I thought they pulled back from Mute when one of the majors (Warners?) bought
the label.

"who should we market better-- Pop Star #462... or these wierd guys
hitting metal things?"
It's a contract-buster, then.
